top 100 games of all time (IGN)

The first part of MGS2 with Snake on the boat was actually really good.

Unfortuantely as soon as that section finished and you controlled Raiden, the game went down hill rapidly.

Anyone notice Deus Ex never made the top 100?

OF ALL TIME!
This list is clearly overly dominated by console games if Deus Ex isn't in the list. I really do think Deus Ex is one of the greatest games of all time. I'd definitely put it in the top 10 at least.

It also seems odd that both MGS2 and MGS2: Substance are in the list. Seems a bit redundant considering they are the same game, just one has some extras.

doh i have Golden sun 1 half finished, and Golden sun 2 not yet started sat in my room somewhere, knew i should have got more into it!

edit: nearly choked on my kitkat...

MarioKart DS ahead of GT4?!

and as for Zelda's wild over representation!

golden eye?!

Surprised by FF6 (they have it down as 3, the US SNES version) getting a higher place than 7. And Chrono Trigger even higher! Not that it isn't deserving of it though, it is an excellent game even though it still hasn't been released here.

some of the top #100 seem a little ridiculous to me.

I think the Ocarina Of Time is #1 to be fair, i woulda thought Goldeneye should be higher though even though it is quite high already.

I would have put fifa 98 and games like that but of course the voters are American so ya know, not a good representation for us lot.

i was getting worried when i did not see goldeneye, then i hit the top 10 ...

dunno where street fighter 2 was tho :/

# 007// GoldenEye 007

hmm coinidence?

lol, thought I was the only one to spot that!

Too many of these games are before my time, but I'd definately agree that MGS1 and Goldeneye should be in the top 10. So many hours played on Goldeneye and the amount of times I've completed MGS1 it's unreal.

Quite how Gran Turismo 4 can be in there I have no idea, I didn't think anyone rated it anywhere near as good as GT2.

Gran Turismo 2 was, in my opinion, the worst of them all. However, GT4 wasn't that good either. Gran Turismo (1) was perfect at the time though how much of that was down to it being the first game supporting Dual Shock I don't know.

I second that, the GT series it defiantly one that doesn’t seem to have done much in the way of moving forward but the first was one of the best driving games I have ever played. Going to be interesting to see what happens not that they actually have some decent competition in the form of forza.

All I was looking for was Ocarina of Time to be at number 1 which it is, so the list is fine by me. (Tho I will say it is madness to have SC: Chaos Theory above Mario 64)

Exactly as long as Ocarina of time is at number one at least it shows they got something right.

Did they only ask Nintendo fanbois? HL2 the top PC game? I don't think so.

A list like that is never going to be right, but before bringing out the Nintendo fanbois card you should note that a lot of industry insiders vote in polls like this, PC gaming legends John Carmack and John Romero are big Nintendo fans, Romero always quotes Chrono Trigger as his all time favourite game. These guys were enjoying Mario games when they were coding PC classics like Wolfenstein, Doom, Quake etc.

How can none of the Quake series not even make the top 100? What a joke.

I had the urge to play Quake again a couple of weeks ago, there was no reply factor left in the game at all, I can see clearer now than ever why they were often regarded as tech demos, capture the flag was fun though :)

Even if there is no replay value now, which I think many people would debate, both quake and doom should feature highly in any greatest game of all time list as they essentually took FPS, and online multiplayer, to the masses in the same way goldeneye and halo did on on console.
