Loads of them out there, always finding more and more,

Top 5 would be,

x) The pianist
x) Full metal jacket
x) Come and see
x) Downfall
x) Band of brothers

Honorable mention the 'the thin red line' for best mini-battle scene ever.

Secondary mentions to, Flags of our fathers and Patton.

in no particular order:

A Bridge Too Far
Full Metal Jacket
Apocalypse Now
The Longest Day
Platoon

runners up

Saving Private Ryan
Thin Red Line
Black Hawk Down
Letters from Iwo Jima
Schindlers List

black hawk down, thin red line (mainly for the score, phenomenal), saving private ryan/band of brothers, letters from iwo jima, the pianist

In no particular order by the way

no saving private ryan? black hawk down? enemy at the gates? letters from iowa jima?

Letters from iowa jima got really hard to watch after about 3/4, it was good up to then, was just losing interest after that.

Black hawk down was very good, considered adding it, not far off, bit star studed though.

The Longest Day
Full Metal Jacket
Das Boot
Black Hawk Down (Zimmerish)
Band of Brothers (Not a film but the OP used it :) )

Runners up:
Apocalypse Now (only reason its not in the first list is because I've never seen it all, yes I know..)
A Bridge Too Far (liked it a lot but just a little bit too drawn out for me)
The Great Escape (music, steve mcqueen, very nearly in toplist)
Schindlers List,

Days of Glory, recently recommended when I asked for "good foreign films".

Another one I have (not yet seen though) is Soldier of Orange.

And another, which isn't strictly a war / action film, but is utterly heart wrenchingly brilliant, 'Life is Beautiful'.
