Top gear lap record, smashed!

I wonder if they have some sort of deal with the manufacturers, they get expensive cars on loan provided they give them a shot at beating the top laptime, sticking on the Ultimas time would simply put these makers off since they have no hope at beating it.

It's all part of Top Gear becoming a lifestyle show. Cars built in sheds by companies with no 'brand' aren't considered cool enough by the great unwashed. They'd much rather show us the latest Aston/Ferrari/Porsche

I'm in agreement. The purpose of the track is not to showcase boutique hardcore track cars, it's to let people get some kind of incling as to how fast cars in the mainstream are. If you let them in, you'd end with all kinds of unknown, uninspiring go karts at the top.

How many roadlegal uninspiring go karts have you seen on the road?

Fun but no more. I'll take an FXX over an Ultima today, tomorrow and every day forward and I would be more than content with it being second fastest on the Top Gear track, hell I'd be happy if it was 50th.

As long as you are happy to pay $2.5m and only drive it when Ferrari say so, then I guess you pays your money and makes your choices :D

If its well known.. and roadlegal, then it should be allowed on the track.

You're post kind of suggests to me that the Ultima is.. an uninspiring go-cart which confuses me somewhat :p

We are talking about the track featured on an entertainment program. It's not their right for it to be featured. Ultimately (excuse the pun :p) it's down to the guys a the show.

Anyway, I really don't think it's that massively inspiring a car, even if it is ridiculously quick.

Classic quote

Ted Marlow, Managing Director of Ultima Sports Ltd commented:
"Well what can I say? I have been driving Ultima's now for over 25 years in hundreds of different Ultima cars with a huge range of different configurations and so I was pretty confident that the GTR720 would do the business.
The Enzo FXX is no ordinary Ferrari having been developed using Formula 1 technology and extensively tested by the 7 times Formula 1 world champion so to beat this lap time certainly proves the magnitude of our achievement.
The Ultima is a perfect illustration of the effectiveness of the KISS principle and enables us to offer an affordable supercar that can outrun the likes of Michael Schumacher in his own £1million Ferrari FXX track car. Simply put we have created automotive history by producing the worlds fastest all round road legal supercar and this new record together with our extensive catalogue of existing world speed records is unequivocal proof of the Ultima GTR's engineering excellence. Ultima fans can rest assured in the knowledge that we still have significant room for lap time improvement in the future as there is always our 800hp variant to put through its paces yet, and of course the keys to our Ultima GTR720 are always available here for a certain Mr. Schumacher should he like a shot at improving our new lap time record further still.........I would also like to clarify to everybody that our GTR720 will clear all speed humps and anybody whom doubts this fact is welcome to visit our factory so that we can demonstrate this to them first hand."

The caparo can do speed bumps. and for the radical... i doubt anyone who has bought one of those has even used it on the road...

Irrelevant, you asked for an example of a road legal car that can't go over speed bumps, the radical is an example.

Whether it will be used on the road is neither here nor there, the fact is; it can.
