Top Gear Performance Car of the Year is...

They look great, but performance car of the year? I wouldn't have even considered it.

The build quality is just too cheap for me, any car where you can bend the plastics with two fingers isn't a good one. Sure it's great to drive, but while all other perfomance car makers are investing millions into the research of compound metals and such, why does Corvette have to stick with fisher price plastic?

The wings, bonnet, roof, splitter and rocker panels are carbon fibre. The frame is made out of aluminium and magnesium alloys. The leaf springs are made out of fibreglass composites. It's not as if the entire car is made out of "fisher price plastic"....

I think its a great looking car, people seem to be hung up on the rear panel flex and seem to think this means the whole car is built out of crisp packets.

You could do the same with the Porsche 928 back in the day by pushing in the rear plastic section and I never heard anyone complain about the build quality of that car. It's a lightweight car so some bits will be plastic, thin metal etc, don't take this as an indication of structural rigidity.
