Top Gear returns on Sunday 27th June at 8pm

Saw a red Reliant Robin today in Greenford and as soon as me and my son spotted it we had to follow it for a few miles waiting for it to turn a corner. It turned left and then right into a shop side road but much to our annoyance the thing didn't flip onto its side :(

So unless you want to buy one you should show no interest in expanding your knowledge about the car, can we extrapolate this new rule and apply it to everything in life?

I'm never going to go to the moon on Apollo 13 so my time looking around the rocket and learning about it was wasted, i feel like i've been done :(

Way to miss the point! The point to clarify is that hearing about the ins and outs of a car is boring, and not something which will appeal to pretty much any of the viewing public. What would they tell us? How much boot space it has and the amount of rear legroom? There is nothing to show us which could possibly be interesting bar what they already do. :)

If you are interested in a specific aspect of it, google it or walk into one of the many showrooms throughout the country where you can take a look at countless examples for yourself and even drive them. Cars are hardly the ultra complicated inaccessible fascinating machines that space rockets are :p

Personally I think the show has scope for a slightly "half way house" approach, might just be me but it would be nice to see the engine and a few more of the tech specs. How far away are we from the TG crew simply going, "this car is made by Porsche, its Fast and is also White in colour", end.

I've loved all the big trips the team have done, i've loved the train vs bike & car, all of these are epic tv moments without the need for any real facts but the lack of facts when simply presenting 3 cars doesn't work for me.

I guess it doesnt bother me as i guess i already know everything there really is to know regarding the cars they test, as i will have probably seen and/or read about them before they get a look in on the show. The only value they can add for me is great camera work, and lots of burnt rubber - which they do.

So from a car geek pov it wouldnt interest me, and from a non car geek pov there isnt much point, so i am not sure who these tech facts would be aimed at?

I'd agree with that. Whilst I enjoy the current format it does seem to have gone a bit to far in one direction. Just a smidgen more detail wouldn't hurt would it?

I suppose they could always give us some Red Button options for the stuff we're missing?

Perhaps he thought that for once his lack of height meant he was OK. :p

LOL like at the start when they are sat on those tiny plastic chairs and hammond feels right at home.

I still cant watch the ship/hotel scene without doubling over with stomach pain from laugthing so much lol. I dont care if it was staged it still cracks me up rotten lmao.

Anyone know if there's a 'special' this series? I would love something similar to another Vietnam or America special.

The thing that epitomised the dumbing down for me was when Hammond was talking about the setting buttons in the E63 AMG, (paraphrased)
"When you push this AMG button here it sets the car up exactly how you want it"*
Oh yes of course the psychic button! He couldn't even be bothered to explain how it did funny things to the suspension, gearing etc, just wraps it up with a non-sensical statement then proceeds to drive sideways.

*I'm reasonably sure this is what he said, but I can't be bothered to sift through iPlayer to double check, if it turns out he said something slightly different which made more sense I will happily retract this statement.

I'm the same, I don't care if something's staged on Top Gear. It is still hilarious. Most of the Vietnam special was brilliant. The Polar expedition was quality, the Japan race and the America one. In fact I can't think of a special that wasn't quality.

I remember their last special trip to bolivia. That was a truly epic episode.
Amazing yes.

He did say that. He talked about the 4 buttons, the first three of which did blah but then the fourth button automatically set the car up based on the first three or something?! Poorly explained I thought.

The AMG button just sounds like it turns everything off, traction control, loosens suspension but Hammond did not make it very clear. :\
