Top Gear: Series 19

Another missed opportunity?

To sell in decent numbers and take on Boxster and TT, and not be in 911 territory where you will not win many sales..... It's prices is also too close to the XK and will simple take sales off it. So it ends up being more of a replacement rather than an addition to the range, and not bringing in new customers to the brand.
Looks great sounds lovely, perhaps is too bloated and run away on cost control..... Normal Jag then ;)

Depends what Jaguars sales model is, perhaps they don't want to dilute the brand like Porsche have done.

What are decent numbers?

More Evoques were sold last year than the entire global sports car market!

It doesnt need to get a buyer to bring new customers to the brand. Just enough of a image shift to get people out of Audi and BMW saloons will be just as effective to the sales. You need to drive both the XK and F type to understand that they are very different cars.

Evoque is the point it starts at 29,195, with great sales.... Doesn't Jag want the same performance ? building cars for Warwickshire, with an elitist attitude is only going to bring in limited revenue.
F type with start price of what... 60K ???? Ending up around 90K.... What Audi and BMW cars is that competing with ? .... It's going to go head to head with a 911.... Taking on an icon is either brave or foolish.

The F type at 35-50K could have been Jaguars Evoque in terms of sales and improving the business, hence missed opportunity in my view......

Presumably BMW's 6 Series Convertible @ 66K, and maybe Audi's S5 Convertible @ £46K or TT-RS Roadster @ 48K...

Certainly would seem more likely targets than a 911.....

I disagree. The metalic metal colours have got a bit boring now. Like the Mercedes colour pallet of white or black or any shade of grey in the middle. Paining it in a bright colour is a great way of smacking you in the face and making you notice it.

Be nice for the rest of the colour range to include similarly bright Green, Orange and Purples :)

Edit: Thinking about it a bit more, although a hairdresser's car Merc SLK350 @ £43K or Merc SLK55AMG @ £54K are probably the most serious competition to the F-Type...

Didnt you read what I said?

Its impossible for the sale figures to match. They are too small to have a mainstream car like that sold at a loss. It covers as range of competitors and thats its 'niche' and yes its brave.

My point was there are more customers who buy a TT than a 911... Sure the margins are bigger on the higher price points, but can you get big enough sales to make it pay.
Is it not better to go after a larger market, take on more customers in a new sector to make the required margins.....it would also bring in a younger customer who you may keep loyal to the brand as they grow older.
Before the prices were announced I was thinking maybe I could look to one sometime..... Now not, so that's a 40 something customer lost...... It's a great looking car, I've looked around a few, lets see how successful it becomes.

The fact you can get a 2.0 TDI says it all about a Golf with a nice top hat.

I assume you are on about a bog standard TT?

In which case: Apples<>Oranges.

The problem however is, what exactly is an apples to apples comparison with regards to the F-Type....

Hence why I said the TT-RS as it was at least a bit more in line with the F-Type, both have 340hp...
