Top Gun 3!!!

I'm in

I would like to be different and say I didnt like TG1 or TG2
I really wanted to walk out of TG2 saying meh, but TBH I loved it, perfect blend of cheese, nods and action

I like to be entertained and it did that

Watched it 3 times now I think, could be 4
But a few bits I have watched probably 10times, like the testing/training trench scene

Hollywood really is out of ideas isn't it. 1 was immense, 2 was a worthy follow up, 3 is not needed.

I don't think they are. I bet there are tons of decent scripts being written, what they seem to be is terrified of breaking two formulas. Superheros and reboots/sequels..

Seems they make so much money that it's terrify to do anything other than the safe play.

For me the first one is just one of those films that no matter how many times I’ve seen it I’ll still watch it again even if it is pure cheese. I desperately wanted the second one to not ruin that. Quite frankly they had me after the opening credits, it was such a spot on homage to the original that it didn't really matter what they did after that, I’m not sure they will be able to pull that off again so they just need to leave it there.

I just don’t know where they’re going to go with it to be honest.

TG1 oiled up beach volleyball scene.
TG2 oiled up beach American football scene.
TG3 oiled up beach badminton scene ?

they will go woke
TG3 oiled up beach litter picking scene*

*plenty of opportunity to flip it and have the ladies oiled up and bending over picking up litter ;)

I got so caught up in the second film at the cinema, I almost started chanting "USA, USA." I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought it was way better than the first film. Even though I'm old enough to have seen the first one at the cinema as well. At the time I enjoyed it, but not as much as other films of the time.

As for a third film? I'm not so sure, but no doubt I'll watch it. And given how much effort Tom Cruise puts in to all his films, I'm sure I'll enjoy it too.

It annoyed me when they inserted a nondescript antagonist in TG2 that seemed to be a mashup of Russia and China but that they would never name.

As for TG3, in this day and age of drone warfare, maybe they'll just be controlling drones in a basement in Nevada, a bit like in Enders Game. ;)

That's the rules never say who the enemy is

It could work. Imagine that Cruise is flying a long-distance ferry flight and talking to his wingman. "Let me tell you about when I first became a Top Gun instructor." Fade to new actors, plot, and action. Then at some point we fade back because something has happened and Cruise gets to be a heroic pilot.

I quite enjoyed 2, i'm sure 3 will be fun, and i'll watch it. But it just seems like there are no ideas left in hollywood. Either rip off some Japanese/Korean story, do a remake of something thats not even that old, or make sequels and prequels!
