Top Spin 3

My copy is on the way, hopefully will arrive tomorrow.

To people who are wondering where the reviews are, don't forget that we usually get reviews a few days before the UK release simply because the game is released earlier in the US. This is one of the few games we get early, so I'm not surprised we haven't seen reviews yet. I'd expect a few to start showing up on European review sites in the next day or so.

Davey, can you let me know whether that online achievement means if you lose your first online game you can't get an achievement?
It'll mean losing or winning a Live game with scores of 6-0 6-0 or something like that (ie, the person losing the match doesn't win a game at all). Winning/losing previous matches won't have any effect on it :)

Thank the lord, I genuinely thought it was the first one where if you lost, that was it, no chance of getting 1000. That would be the worst thing ever.

I believe the World Tour achievements actually relate on an online tour with tournaments against other people, so I'm not sure how achievable the 1000 will be, considering there will likely be some amazing players online. I can see a very achievable 750 or so though, with 850 being quite likely :)

Mines on the way too, I read OXM and they gave it an 8 of 10. They preferred it to topspin 2 but said a couple of the controls using the bumpers where tricky.

Tommorow off as well to start hammering it!

I was thinking how come no tennis game has ever matched Super Tennis (Jimmy Connors had the better gfx but same gamplay) on the SNES. What ingredient are these games missing that a game 16 years ago had so much more of?

I enjoyed trying to hit the butler :p.
But other than that, the simplicity of the game play mechanics and pick-up and play nature of them.

lower standards

I wouldn't say that, several PSone games still stand the test of time such as Metal Gear Solid and Fade to Black, so I wouldn't say lower standards. I think games like Top Spin and Virtua Tennis lack a lot of the 'fun' that were in games like Smash Court Tennis.

For me Virtua tennis is too arcadey and top spin can be a little too realistic :D A hard person to please with his tennis games. I will tell more tomorrow when my copy of top spin arrives

I think its a combination of lower standards, nostalgia and our generation. I bet if you gave a kid both games that hadn't played either before they'd prefer top spin/virtua tennis, and not just because of graphics.
