96 is the amount of people that died, it’s also red. That’s about as close as you can get.

A number and a colour (of the football shirt)?

If so that’s quite a leap IMO, especially if the lyrics show it to be related to Tupac.

Taking you at face value, no.

Many people have suggested in the past that is was ‘karma’ for Heysel and ‘what goes around comes back around’ clearly also a nod to that.

Ok, a bit more to it, but still, the people that make the “connection” are going to be a pretty small section of society. Outside of certain sections of football society I doubt many will ever make that connection.

That said, is the group that connects it to Tupac any larger?

I'll give you a quick rundown on this.

96 Liverpool fans were killed in the Hillsborough Disaster.

Karma refers to the Hysel Disaster in which Liverpool fans were blamed for the killing of Juventus fans when part of a wall collapsed.

It's in completely bad taste.

Who knows and honestly, whatever it is, am not offended. Honestly don't care. No one will buy it and if they do. I doubt you ever see it or hear about it unless you visit 4chan and find that 1 million in a chance topic with someone wearing it or whatever.

There are a huge number of things you can buy online, a huge number of items with an almost endless combination of design elements and product codes. That some of those elements sometimes converge in a way that can have an alternate interpretation (if you tilt your head and squint really hard) should not be surprising to anyone.

This whole thing reminds me of those scares ages ago where people were convinced they could hear satanic prayers in songs played backwards. It was usually only possible to hear them after someone had provided you with the "hidden" backwards lyrics. Human brains are suggestible things.
