Torres's record

I don't think that's the point, the point is winning all those medals even if you think the UEFA cup is a mickey mouse competition.

It's a valid point though because by definition in order to win the Europa League, you must play for a team that has failed. It's not about whether you think the UEFA Cup is a mickey mouse competition, it's about whether you even get the chance to play in it. Take Barcelona, they have literally never played in the Europa League, because they are too good. So if you are someone like Messi who most would rate as a decent player and has been with them for a number of years, you haven't even had the opportunity to play in that competition (they last played UEFA Cup in 2004).

Sure, it's one of those 'interesting' little stats, like players who have scored in all 4 divisions (meaning e.g. Ryan Giggs is screwed from the start because his club was too good), but I wouldn't necessarily think it holds as much weight as other records players could hold.

So Torres scored yesterday against Everton and that was his first EPL goal of the 2013 season:o

As much as he amuses me these days 22 goals and those honours isn't bad for a player who's universally perceived to be a complete flop.

To think that the difference between 22 and 25 goals is the difference between being classed as a flop and winning you global recognition, countless individual awards as well as comparisons to players like Messi and Ronaldo

He's kept improving to be fair to him and for some reason I'd like him to keep improving and find the form he had at Liverpool :p. His scoring record last season was 1 goal in just under 3 three games which isn't bad to be honest but it's his 8 goals in 36 league appearances that has let him down.

I must have been recalling 2008, then. So, scored the winner in 2008... and top scorer in 2012 - not bad.

6 people scored 3 goals in 2012, its hardly a huge amount of goals in a tournament these days though he made a similar number of appearances he played less minutes than probably anyone else on 3 goals. Of course 2 of those were against ireland, one against an Italy who were dead and burried and out of this site.

Wolves, Monteray(CWC), Leeds, Brentford, Middlesbrough goals in the cup, FC Nords, Rubin, Steaua, Shaktar, Benfica(there are more, I got bored) in Europe and most of his 8 league goals were Sunderland, Villa, Norwich, Newcastle, Reading...... infact the goal against Arsenal is probably his only goal against a basically non awful team in the league.

People score goals, it doesn't matter how terrible you are, Heskey playing at Utd, City or Chelsea WOULD score goals, because thats football, if you stand in the box for a team that gets the ball in the box, it will drop to you now and then.

Bale is creating and scoring goals all for himself, Torres isn't, Bale is scoring goals few if any other players in the world can score, Torres is scoring goals basically any striker in the world can score, and missing chances most other strikers wouldn't miss.

This is what makes Walcott crap, most of his goals are put on the plate for him, and I can't think of more than 2-3 in his entire time at Arsenal that any striker can score, while RVP was putting away chance after chance that most strikers can't score. It does not matter how crap you are, anyone physically capable of running a small amount, at a top team, would end up in the box and scoring a few goal.

People are mostly rating Torres on the chances he's seen missing rather than the chances he scores. He has missed stupidly easy chances, repeatedly, for 3 seasons, and 8 goals in the league is still pathetic for a guy on 200k a week and costing 50mil. Everyone misses chances no matter how deluded some fans get when the start talking about a dip in form because say RVP misses 5 chances in one game, thats completely normal. Its when you miss 5 chances in a game so often in a season you haven't scored more than 10 in the league for a few years, or when you can't get in the position to miss 5 chances in a game because of your poor play.

Torres has also appeared in 23 more games total this season including the summer, excluding the summer its still 18 games extra.

Is that his fault though? Surely the main question is - why on earth did they splash out 50 mil. Thats what i couldn't get my head around, especially as he was just getting back from several long lay offs as well, if i recall.

As a Chelsea fan I would want him to stay

The money doesn't mean anything to them and he's still a very good player

You mean of 2013?

I think Fernando Torres should move back home "Liverpool" & join the Anfield revolution this summer :)

His home is Atletico Madrid

I know you're trolling, but I'll answer seriously. Why the **** would we want him when we have Suarez, Sturridge, Coutinho, Borini, Sterling + a fair few youngsters to fill in on the attacking spots in our team? At most attack wise I would expect us to bring in a guy that compliments Coutinho.

x2 strong, pacey CB's is what we should be looking at (with maybe a Left sided WB & a midfield 'hardman' on the agenda too).

Back onto Torres, does aanyone have his goals to minutes ratio (goals to games is a useless stat)

Borini is poo, Sterling is raw and a winger, Suarez works better in support and Sturridge is your only real 'goal getter' (I am aware that Suarez has been scoring and I rate him but I think he works better as a support man rather than carrying the whole team).

Coutinho I haven't seen much of though I've heard he looks the real deal.

Minutes:goals:minutes per goal

Code:
Danny Welbeck	1204	1	1204
Carlton Cole	1306	2	653
J. Walters	2876	6	479.3
Danny Graham	1407	3	469
Grant Holt	2124	5	424.8
E. Adebayor	1226	3	408.7
Franco Di Santo	1978	5	365.6
Peter Crouch	1921	5	384.2
Djibril Cisse	1106	3	368.7
Kenwyne Jones	1035	3	345

Danny Welbeck the worst striker in the Prem :)

Well, I did say attacking positions ;) as I don't know what our system will be next season (I think we'll go for some sort of 3 at the back counter attacking hyprid thing)

Borini is poo
I really like Borini, his movement is top, top quaility. He just needs to work with the others more so they understand his runs more.

Don't get me wrong I think Torres has been a huge disaster at Chelsea, and not even Rafa was able to drag out his previous form (think he is mentally shot) but using goals to games is silly, he could have played 38 games for his 8 goals but only got 10 minutes in each game of 20 of those 38 games.

We'd be stupid to even consider taking Torres back. We can get a far better player for less money, he wouldn't suit the alternating front line we favour and he's a **** that forced a move away from the club at the very last minute. He's damaged goods with very few friends left at Liverpool.

Even so, that's Downing-esque.

In fact, Downing tripled Welbeck's tally this season!

That's no surprise, mind. Welbeck is a Championship-level player at best.

I don't understand why so many (luckily few in here) rave about Welbeck! Shame we got rid of Pogba.

Its the heskey syndrome. Its a new medical term used to describe fans that see good in non scoring strikers. Its higly contagious spreading to england managers and some epl managers too.
