Total Speculation: 16 core ryzen (3xxx) announced with a newer mac pro ?

LOL that is nuts. They absolutely could have done a deal and gone with a zen 2 threadripper setup that would absolutely spank that - they only needed to get past the thunderbolt issue.

There were Ryzen X570 motherboards that included Thunderbolt support being shown at CES.

Then they were triple nuts. A 32 core threadripper matched to those gpu's with pcie 4 storage options would be a complete beast.

I suspect that pro gpu would even benefit from pcie 4.0.

We'll probably see something like that at a later date. Next years model maybe?

What do you mean by "next year's model"? Zen 2 Threadripper? Or Zen 3 Threadripper? There's no way Zen 2 TR won't be be PCIe 4 and there's no reason to drop the traditional number of PCIe lanes on the X499 platform, which means all of those multiple NVMe slots will be PCIe 4. Whether or not we see TR in September or Q1 2020 remains to be seen.

Highly unlikely we see an AMD model.

The people and institutions buying these firstly look for an Apple sticker, and secondly may want an Intel one. That's the extent of it.

It doesn't matter if Intel are getting absolutely crucified in HEDT and server / workstation.

We aint totally dumb you know :p i buy and spec kit based on price/performance and suitability for the people i support - if i get a choice to purchase AMD hardware it will be bought if it fits the bill.
Now i cant speak for everyone in IT, but most places i know... especially in education... have a lot more than just one eye on price.
