Total War: Rome Remastered - 29th April Release Date

I think this is a remake not a remaster. The image with the overview of the faction heir looks discernibly similar to the ruinous levelling mechanic used in RTW2.

You really suck CA.

Money for old rope? At first glance I'm not sold.

I played the original game for years but imo it was the mods that gave it longevity the base game got repetitive fairly quickly not to mention the bugs CA never ironed out. Unless they are going to overhaul the game engine to reduce the CPU bottleneck the game will still suffer from the same limitations as the first. Not sure overhauling the menus and making everything look prettier is going to cut it imo.

The only "remastered" games I've seen that have been done with actual care and attention are The Monkey Island games and Age of Empire's series.

I really thought that I had this in Steam, I played it enough when released. Perhaps I only ever owned the disc release.
Can't find the Collection for sale at around a fiver or so. Over a t2Game is was close to £7.50 but they have it marked as discontinued.

It'll be interesting to see what has been remastered / remade and I'll probably have more intertest when released. Not sure if I would go back to playing it again tho, much of my previous play time was done with mods. The SPQR mod is one that I seem to remember.

I sent Steam a message as I couldn't find the Rome Collection game in my library but I was almost sure I bought it when on sale ages ago, after still owning the disc version. For some reason it had got removed from my library. So now it is restored and I'm prepped if I should wish to buy the remaster, after the release and reviews.

If you still have the CD version of TW the key now works in Steam, it didn't used to but it changed in the last couple of years likewise for Medieval 2 as well

Never knew that, I did buy the older titles when on sale at Steam, just for the sake of having them there rather than using my old CD's.

Thanks for noting that.

Got my Steam version restored to my library and found that I only had 19mins play time. All of my previous play would have been by the disc version then.
Good job I got the Steam one back in my library as I can't find the discs, loathed to spend too long in the loft looking...!

I would have hoped that the Medieval 2 series would have been reworked somehow. Rome however seems to remain popular enough to keep their attention.

It's not CA, so that might be the answer. It's the same team that did the mobile version.

That said, for the price they're charging if you already own it, it's probably worthwhile from the videos and screenshots. Lots of quality of life improvements.

The series peaked at Medieval 2 for me. I tried Empire but it was almost too grand, and then additional complexity they introduced for Rome 2 lost my interest. I don’t have much (ie none) interest in Warhammer so didn’t try those, and the smaller releases such as Britannia I also felt bombarded with complexity from the off.

I feel that the TW series has suffered from the same blight of many long running game series, where added complexity does not necessarily equate to added fun.
