Total War: Warhammer DX12 boost for AMD still can't match Nvidia's DX11 performance

No offence, but if Nv can't get any Async working on their eol 9 series, what ****ing chance have AMD got making it work for them when Nv cba delivering what they promised in the first place?:p

Folks at PcPer don't think NVIDIA will ever deliver on their promise of Async drivers for Maxwell. Just like they backtracked on DX12 and Vulkan support for Fermi as well.

This was after they had an interview with the head of Engineering from FutureMark. They also state AMD's method is simply better as well, hence the better improvements the OP seems so annoyed about.

As they say only one thing matters; the end result. If that means your card is better at one API or the other, what matters is the end result.

So if an AIB 480 matches the AIB 1060 in DX11, but pulls ahead in DX12 just buy what gives you the best end result for the games you play. It's a coin toss between the two anyway depending on that.

I'llto be honest I stopped reading at his comment that despite AMDs attempt to gimp Nvidia in these titles, that Nvidia cards still beat the AMD cards

What he doesn't tell you is that he is only specifically talking about Pascal 1070 and 1080 vs all other AMD cards.

For some reason he is glossing over the 1060 vs 480 which is a better comparison of new tech vs new tech in Vulcan and DX12 etc

Basically saying the brute force of the 1070 and 1080 in these tests are better than 28nm AMD cards.

So that's basically my take on it, and amounts to him rambling on like a Muppet using new tech vs old to back his argument and refusing to acknowledge new vs new.

Like I say, once Vega arrives we better put suicide watch on this guy.

Total utter fail tbh...

All you guys still beating the drum of Warhammer, is it worth a play?

It is a fantastic game :). One of the best Total War games to date.

I would ignore that benchmark though as a basis for how the game performs, as it is basically useless as I think it is just for graphics and does not have any cpu related/AI tasks running.

The fps you get in the benchmark is in no way indicative of what you get in the actual game once the cpu bottleneck comes in to play in a large full stack(s) battle.

Is it still cpu bound then ? I had Rome Total War 2 I got free with my i7 4770k, it ran like a pig and I found out it's due to the engine being cpu bound.

Which is why I found it odd that DX12 was used for this engine

Yes, all the Total War games are and horribly so. Generally if you have a massive battle with loads of units fighting (full stack armies) there isn't a modern cpu that can keep up and keep you at 60fps+

No i am not and that is why some people get it wrong. What i am saying DX12 purpose is to benefit CPU and reduce overhead compare to DX11 ,however, in AMD gaming evolve titles none of DX12 games has done yet expect Doom and Rise of the Tomb Raider. Moreover, even with the help of DX12+ Async AMD cannot match Nvidia DX11 performance in this game ,which is embarrassing for CA and AMD join project.

It still shows AMD are getting a substantial boost with dx12 but Nvidia have just got such a big lead in dx11 in this game that its not quite enough. Not much in it now though. We will probably see games that do well on AMD even in dx11 do exceptionally well with dx12.

Not every game is going to mop the floor with Nvidia just because its dx12 you know, but it is helping AMD from being rolled over.

I don't see your point? The 480 is clearly beating it's competition, the 1060......

And it would appear nvidia cards can't handle dx12.....yet

The whole thing is click bait, why should AMD bother with DX11 in this game when it has DX12 and their performance there is excellent?

Nvidia don't have the same level of DX12 support AMD have so they concentrate on DX11.

In the end both sides perform well and all Doom12 can think about is AMD DX11 performance completely ignoring Nvidia's lack of modern API support.

Its a lot of energy expended on banging on about past technology which Nvidia do well in while ignoring new technology, his priorities are messed up from loyalties.

I love tw warhammer its the best release they have done in ages. As for the DX12 problems atm its still in a beta form so wait till they have sorted some of the bugs out!

For me the games runs brill in dx 11 2 980s clocked at 1530 getting 45-60 fps campaign map ingame 55-80 fps running at 1440p. #

Roll on the beast men on the 28 !:D
