totally fed up with computer

OK
Next thing I'd try is another make/model type of drive, do you know anybody who has them in cupboards (like me)?

And yes you can have 3 borked drives in a row.
Earlier this year I had 3x eBike batteries that were all duff.

yes i have others drives here and they can be hot swapped into the icy cages
got a friend coming over later with his desktop to see if he has the same issue with the drive too

Do you have an external sata to USB adapter that you can try instead? That would at least prove if the drive is at fault or not and won't crash the OS.

friends bringing one over tonight with his desktop so we can try it.. but im fairly certain its this... computer blue screens on mine when i,m booted and i hot swap drive into an icy box. doesnt do that with any other drive i have here

I have had a series of bad drives before too. And infact I recently had to warranty replace a Seagate drive because of errors. I'm not sure I'd buy another Seagate for a while to be honest.

How old is your PC? The reason I ask this is that I recall an old motherboard issue that blue screened with ahci enabled. I can't remember the details but I would certainly try disabling it.
Also, when you do manage to boot, have you removed the drive from the bootable devices in the BIOS? Some motherboards have an annoying habit of adding a new drive as the first bootable device. You should set it to disabled before you allow it to boot beyond the BIOS.
I would buy a cheap USB drive copier ( or similar ) to allow you to plug in a drive and check it without having to disassemble your PC. You can get them really cheap and it's a good way to check the drive out/ format it etc before you physically install it.

Well tried the drive tonight on a friends computer same issue.. used his sata drive to usb and cant get in touch with drive. doesnt show in disc management. just lists as fatal error .. so i,m pretty convinced its yet another faulty drive and i might ask for a refund and buy a wd drive as i,m now worried even if the next one works ... how long will it work for
