damn it someone should make this a sticky.

the reason its showing those lower clocks is because its in 2d mode.

when u fire up a game or 3d app the speeds will step up to 500mhz which is the 3d speeds.

the reason it does this is to consume less power when in general windows doing 2d work and it generates less heat so in turn the card will run cooler and the fan will slow down making less noise.

thanks for the replie
but 1 q for you is a x1600 better than a x800
if so why wont this card run over 12 fps in game on low and the x800 will pull over 30 fps
he picked the card to try and better himself not roll back
im just at a lost

X1600 Pro is inferior to X800 Pro/GTO/XT/XTPE etc

They were more intended as a competitor to the 6600 GT.

that was 1 prob i never looked into it as i was just asked to order it by my nephew as he thought it was a better card due to x800 to a x1600 would be better .
he is only 9 after all
any way thanks for your help guy,s :)

all good if your up on the card scene as some of us dont have time
Search function takes all of a two seconds, failing that there's about eleventy zillion of these threads on the first two or three pages of this forum.

Toms Hardware have massive charts comparing almost every single PCI-E GPU out there with the same base PC spec (they also have AGP charts). They have charts for CPUs too. Then there are reviews, etc. etc.

Next up: PLAY GAMES WITH YOUR GRAPHICS CARD. The first thing you should do when getting a new GPU isn't loading up a utility to check clocks, or 3D Mark. If it plays the games how you want - who cares if its 10Mhz underclocked?

Of course if you're hardcore into GPUs you should have looked away from this post in disgust the second I mentioned playing games with a GPU ;)

The sad thing is this thread just goes to show how misleading the naming conventions on hardware can be these days. To the uninitiated, it's a fair guess to say that a x1600 would be faster than an x800.

Agree, naming convention is confusing...

For me it's good to have OCUK forum guys help out, even over what would seem obvious to the seasoned OC'er, shame about the tease comments though, lets down to forum...
