totaly custom painted WC rig - Progress log

well, i have 3 HDDs, one ( main - not painted)is in a home bodged enclosure, out of the way, and theres 5 HDD slots in that HDD rack in my case, so one will be right on the bottom slot, the other nearer the top, that way you can see allt he artwork... they will be lit ofcourse

a lot os the paintwork will probobly be never seen, its just soemthing i liek to know is there, and if people want to see. they can !

Brilliant mate. Wish i could do something like that. Planning on doing my first pc mod in the next week. Won't be anywhere as good as that. I have seen some mods and the lengths people go to are amazing. Best mod i seen so far probably the Orac³.

If your interested.

Thanks,
ive seen that Orac 3 before, but no in that much detail. its one hell of a machine !. thing abotu mine is its all very cheap for me to do lol ! id dread to think how much £££ went into that one !

Yea that's true, but still some of the stuff he uses is pretty cheap. i.e all the shower tube casing. As long as you got the skills/know how, you can cut out a lot of the cost. "Knowledge is power" as they say. Good luck with that build can't wait to see finished result. It's a bit different than anything i seen before, not many painted hard disks. Was going to try the clear perspex cover for hard disk and dvd drive.

ive got a cheapie 12 gig drive here that was gonna get the treatment ( windowed top) but i cannot for the life of me find my star drivers
its apparently one of the hardest mods to get right !! so be careful, even the slightest suggestion of a speck of dust means ** disc is ruined !!

ha ha... well
im not going to say much, but its not dead... i just need to go out tomorrow and buy a new picture frame lol, as ive kinda ruined the perspex.

whween i started the drive it 'squeked' and i realised the spindle was stuck on the perspex, even afetr i checked the levels, it was touching within not even milimetres.

im gonna get a freesh piece of plastic tomorrow, and mount it on top of the old top, instead of under it.
again, im totaly not expecting the drive to work ! lol just fancied a quick go at what is considered 'modding taboo' lol

IVE DONE IT !!!! a succesful hard drive wondow mod !!!
i scrapped the drive that you see pics of for now, and i pulled out a more suitable western digital drive, whcih had a better top for modding.
window is on, drive works, and im playing music off it now !!
the downside?
its only 6GB lol

where can i host a video, recorded on my phone ? i can stick it on my PC when my brother gets back :D

im already planning to buy a cheapie 80 gig SATA drive, and mount it so you can see it ticking when you open the door on the front :D ( in the 5.25 bays )
although this would be a lot easier with a lappy HDD

VIDEO

forgot that i had a video recorder on my digi cam !!.
this is the disc at power up, it exciting at that point lol. that noise you here is my x1900 fan at 100% at start up lol

Any white specks and spots you see on the images are remainders of polish, the pump was a nightmare to polish so its still covered in the stuff lol !!
So, thats all the cpmonents for the rig done and dusted. my fave has to be the Maze, that thing looks like its been dip[ped in glass :-D

the only thing thats holding me back is connections, a T and a Y ive lost my Y, and it was blue anyway :

Looking excellent mate, love the hdd mod. What do you use to polish the paintwork?.

Mark

wellt theyre laquered in 2 pack laquer, then wet sanded down to remove and bits of dust, runs, imperfections or orange peel, with 2000 grit paper, then polished using G3 polish, which ive ran out of lol so im using 'autoglym paint restorer'

Well, still waiting for deliveries guys, but heres some pics of the hard drives finished, laquered, polished etc. STILL finding bits of dry polish everywhere but its a bugger to remove !
the weird surface you see on the bottom driove is acctually a reflection f the underside of the top by the way !

here we go :
