Tough jobs market?

Slightly different for us as we're being shut down as a whole body rather than just laying people off that aren't needed anymore. Agree there is a lot of tat floating around...

And as much as people slated us in the press funny how it's never mentioned that in every audit, internal, from the NAO, and using external auditors KPMG, we were one of the most efficient public sector organsations.

But that's too positive so they won't ever mention that ;)

At least it's going to be a longish process, 18 months or so, plenty of time to sort myself out.

Its only going to get worse. A double dip recession is on the horizon. Bleak bleak times ahead. Could be 10 15 before we are out of the recession.

Lots of discussion. In reality nothing is going to stop or protect you if it does occur. My priority now is to get back into a perm job and then worry about it.

Fair dos mate. Im starting uni next month, pretty lucky i dont have to worry about jobs and the real world. Its laughable tbh, a few years ago job adverts would hardly get any suitable applicants but now several hundred apply.

I'm looking to change jobs and I find the market very tough. Quite a number of times I been told they have received hundreds of applications and some had to stop taking anymore cvs as there was far too many.

From what I see agencies and employers have also put up their requirements a bit more as they are spoilt for choice now. Do more for a lot less.

That's true. If you look at minimum wage jobs like cleaning, some even require 3-4 years in a job similar to that  Or a degree to do archiving. I did that when I was 14 ffs.

Luckily I've gone back to being a student for the next 1 1/2 year so hoping it will look better when I have to look for a job again.

I think the job market varies a lot dependent on area. When I took redundancy pre Xmas I did not start looking till Mid Jan and had 3-4 job offers by start of Feb.

My mate who lives a bit further north has been struggling since then to get anything permanent.

In Scotland unless you in the big cities I can imagine it being harder still.

Good Luck.
