Toyota Alphard Camper - BOUGHT & EXCITED -

Ah spot on..looks perfect for 3. One day!
Well, i'm new to all this and got a couple of things planned, just small weekend to warm up etc... then will work out what we do need, don't need etc etc... all a learning experience but I'm a more "just be out the door in 30 minutes" type of guy, the missus will over think everything... which for me in a camper, isn't my way hahaha but we shall see!

I agree the wheels look good but you have dropped the gap between wheels and body a lot so you deffo need to be very careful if you ever get proper muddy conditions or you stand a high chance stuff like a big stick can get stuck in there

really depends where your going to go though,99% of the time you wont even risk encountering something thats going to be an issue to you

Can you change the centre caps? I would get a decent toyota sticker on them personally
Nope, that's the thing, it looks like they have but they haven't Originally ran 225/55/17's, now running 245/40/19 the overall diametere is exactly the same at 26.7"... width increased by 7.9% and less sidewall but the overall diametere is the same so jeight remains the same. Hence why I didn't go 20's as they start to then make changes overall that I couldn't be bothered with.

And yeah I've got Toyota black centre caps on the way so they look more "OEM"

How much did you pay fella? Really tempted after watching the JayEmm video as usage as a van could be really handy as well as camping.
Ours was £19k mate, which is a lot of money but they go for all sorts of money when converted like ours. You can pick up a normal 7 seat version i.e. the MPV from £5k upwards for solid ones... and because they're 100% galvenised, they don't rust either... there's a few on auto trader buddy! We're well happy! Can't wait to get camping which could be... from Friday 29th which would be good... for a couple of nights. Then me and a mate going for two nights upto lakes... just to kinda get a feel for what you need and don't need etc!

Depends how many sweet he has at the time
:cry: A Years supply of Wethers Originals... gets them everytime hahaha

@mid_gen Yeah we were looking at the one like yours, with wider beds etc... there's kinda 3 main varients both of ours being on and another is wider bed like yours with the cooker coming around the drivers seat etc. Yours look fantastic sir, really nice and like you say you're not living out of it as such... none of us will, this isn't van life... need somewhere water proof, and comfy and that's it. For me with ours, I think our girl will go in the pop up... she's soo excited, the missus will go on the bed and I'll be on a camping bed in the awning which is cool with me... if I'm camping with a mate I'll be in the bed... You got any full shots of the van at all? What year is yours?

@mid_gen Looks friggin ace just sat there whta a great piccie that is... yeah it's gonna get some scratches matey, ours has some, it is what it is... it's a camping tourer or whatever... it's going to get used!!! Mate, I can't wait to get it back next week with this bumper all done... I need some of my own pictures like this!!!

Well, I'm booked in for two "tester" weekends... one near Harlech next weekend and the following with a buddy in Yorshire Dales... the good thing is, the Harlech one is fully hooked up water and electric supply, the one with my mate is purely camper only no electric hookup so it'll be interesting to see how long the lesiure battery lasts! Really only thing is, the fridge will drain the batter on the non hookup so I think that's really the only sacrifice, I mean we're on in each location for 2 days so... just to get a feeling for it all!

Looks good.
I thought you were using that log as an axle stand at first glance
Hahaha, yeah so did my mate when I sent it through. TBH the calipers look rough in those pictures in the flesh look a lot better and smoother... happy with them all the the breaking wow, sooo much better. However, pushing big pistons in with your bare hands... it's tough!!! hahaha

Looking good but I would expect the brakes to be in a lot better condition than that considering purchase price. Massive lip on the discs and next to no meat on the pads.
Generally people will run things until they break... the pads came up on the MOT that I asked them to perform independantly... and they were going to replace... I said just don't bother as I'll be ripping all of them out anyway, it's literally a waste of their time/money and my time... as long as it passed MOT I didn't care. If they were brand new pads and discs, I'd have still replaced with mine as I always do on all my cars. Things like this don't bother me at all. Like the alloys, not bothered as I was replacing them with my own wheels straight away.

What I'm interested in when I buy a car are the fuilds, gear changes, engines, rattles, bushes etc etc and any corrossion... that's way more important to me.

Sooooo... another new addition... steering wheel which is so much thicker, contoured, lovely dark grey wallnut and nice new leather... and a new android stereo... plus I manually retroi fitted cruise control for £15... get in...

Suprisingly... I quite liek those haha
I normally go 18's due to rubber cost tho

Have you had a chance to have a fly about in it to check the MPG? What was the dash reading the long term as?
Well, in the middle of a test, however, I filled up yesterday on way back and did 210 miles and if was half a tank left... so, it's looking good mpg considering it's a V6 and converted!

yes wheel & HU look good - did you add an aeriel (testing needed ?) for an embedded sim or that was already present;
wheel looks new new, or is it rebuilt/covered (good trade out of some eastern eu countries for recovered BMW ones, when I needed a new clock spring way back)
"embedded sim"? Not sure what you mean? As for the wheel, yeah I "THINK" they're refurbed, but the wood is ticker and more contoured, but the frame is pure original so I'm assuming they strip it all down and do their own, haven't a clue I'l be honest but it's spot on I know that but 100% they must take originals and re-do them, for £150 quid it's a really nice piece of kit though!

Steering wheel looks good, small things make all the difference. That Android HU looks pretty slick too, I like the UI.
Cheers man, yeah it's always the little things... I can't help myself, it was the same with the SRT8, things like the old crappy standard steering wheel, now mines all carbon and looks factory at the same time.. I love the individual things tbh... like putting my stamp on my vehicles, can't help myself :-)

I got ~450 miles out of my last tank. 70l tank...so around 29mpg. 90% motorway driving.

How did you do the cruise? Would love to add it!

Also, what's the wheel? Looks nice.
Cruise is easy buddy as long as you have the facelift model... basically this is what you need:

Get this stalk...

and this cover...

and follow these instructions:

It's dead easy. As for the wheel, I got it from this dude:

Buy The Wheel Here

does the HU have 4g module (that uses an esim/sim-card) which also needs an aeriel, that was not present in the original vehicle config
Ahhh right with ya no it doesn't, however, it auto connects to my wifi hotspot anyway so no need for it tbh. As soon as I get in the car, wifi and bluetooth auto connect, job done.

Dropped and replaced the Diff Oil (0.9 litres), dropped and replaced the gearbox oil and filter (4.7 litres so will do it again later in the year as thats' only 50% as they say around 8.5 litres so obviously the rest is in the torque converter etc)... few other bits like doing the spark plugs was a ball ache as rear manifold has to come off...

What's the MPG like on this?
I'm around 25mpg right now in a mixture of driving so, it's where I expected it to be and considering it's a 3.0ltr V6 plus all the weight, yep can't complain

I am seriously tempted by one of these! Is there any buyers guide that helps understand the model variants? There is a bunch on AutoTrader ranging from 6k through to 16k! I am looking for a 3L that I can do a conversion on over many years --- focus initially is using it as a van/work horse, then leisure car (bikes etc) and then potential camper?
Not really and to be honest the only real things you need to know are, 2.4ltr is a cam chain... BUT is the only slightly notorious (in my opinion), engine Toyota did and I believe it has a little bit of oil burn... also they're only 160bhp... which for tootling around yeah all good, but as a caravan type thing I believe the 3.0ltr V6 (220bhp and cam BELT annoyingly) is the better engine as it's less stressed and obviously smooth. Other than this, now and then the electric door motors can fail but other than this they're bomb proof and also rust proof as pretty much all panels are galvanised.
Also you have the 10 series (mine), then in 2008 you had the 20 series, slightly more toys, slightly different design etc but fundamentally the same vehicle really. Also, the Vellfire is the top of the range one generally, so leather interior, in the 20 series reclning seats etc

Those decals will make it go faster ;)
I've calculated 23bhp per side... easily! hahaha
