Toyota Alphard Camper - BOUGHT & EXCITED -

Brill thank you, is series 10 just anything pre-2008 then? It is hard to browse on AT as everyone puts the import year in rather than the car year!

Like, this one looks today but unsure if its missing any gear?
Yeah but within that pre 2008, there's the pre and post facelift, mines a post facelift and can have cruise control fitted for £15 quid, the pre face lift (that one you have posted), takes £1k to get cruise control to work. I'd go post facelift i.e. my style if I was getting one matey!

Pug - where did you put the trailer -you never got all that kit in that van did you ?
Yeah was loads of room, all went inside with the 13 year old sitting in the seat at the back, it's surprising how much you can get in and we're getting another awning tent soon so they'll be two... and we're going upto Scotland in it on 20th... 1 week camping and 1 week in a cottage...

we still haven't seen pics of how the bed in the pop-up works ... children get that ?

( using phone as hotspot , or, android auto(waze),car-play worked fine ? )
It's just up a Conway Campers getting something done I'd noticed on the pop box while in warranty... I'll get it back and do a video of how the pop top and the sleeping works.

As for the phone as hotspot, yeah it's sound because generally say when I go on holiday this month, I'll download the Google map anyway onto the head unit so, even if still tethered, if I lose signal I still have that map. Plus, I've also got copilot on it anyway which I bought years ago so, always got sat nav. As for Spotify, I generally download my playlists anyway so they're just stored on the headunit as well. I've not bothered linking android auto on this unit but on the SRT8 I do use it there.

Alright, I'll admit it. I really want one of these :)
Hahahaha, yeah they are cool, deffo look around doesn't take much to make them look nice either and tbh, if you need them as a pure peopel carrier, makes way more sense than the other stuff you can buy with 7 plus seats!!!!!

Well Scotland trip completed... outcome, this Alphard is a fine machine. However, it does need bushes doing, so it's going up on the lift this week, list everything she needs and get it all replaced so it's A1. Here's some highlights of the highlands!

Cheers yeah it's come on a little since I first bought, more kinda comfy and cosy now I'll be honest.

Just been away with a mate all weekend... good crack, great walk etc... loved it... had the awning setup nicely as well, great campsite!

OWNER UPDATES NEARLY 2 YEARS LATER

Well just to give some updates on the Alphard Campervan. It's bee perfect, it's been spot on reliable although I will say that I did spend money on every single main bush being replaced underneath as no matter what you do, it's a 2007 and there's only so long rubber will last... I then Lanoguarded the whole thing like my 350Z/SRT8... so I at least know it's going to last. It's getting circa 25 miles to the gallon which considering the weight and the 3.0 V6 engine, I reckon that's perfectly fine. Nothing has broken or failed... and I'll be away on the first trip of the year this late May bank holiday and then using it a lot. I didn't use much over winter, I wanted to do some snowy winter campsites but didn't get around to it... which is a shame, but will be making an effort this winter!!!

Anyone looking at Alphards, just buy it... but be aware you WILL need to changes bushings out on older models if they've not already been done. Engine and gearbox wise, spot on!

I've been on and off on getting the Nissan version (Elgrand) shame we don't have the newer ones in the UK.
Yeah it's basically your two choices, Elgrand or Alphard... both have their pluses and minuses tbh... but yeah... you have to wait to get the later ones in UK and I believe that the importing costs now have doubled since pandemic so... yeah...

err you could do it on drive but tbh it's quite a pain in the arse job but there's an amazing guy Birmingham way who can do it all in a morning... he's just 100's of them that it's second nature personally I wouldn't do the axle bushes myself tbh... I'll do things like control arms or things like that if I have to but anything more than that is more than it's worth to just pay the reight person!

I had a 1997 Elgrand 3.2 Diesel, one of the motors I regret selling the most - but if I were to do it again I would go Alphard for Toyota reliability vs Nissan quirks.
yeah it's kinda where I was... I own a Nissan 350z and it's been awesome but have heard some "quirks" with the Elgrands so, just wanted something that doesn't cost,,,,,

Been trying to convince my Mrs on Alphard/Vellfire or Elgrand conversions for a while as a swap for our second car but she's not having it. I'll force her to read this thread and hopefully will make her change her mind
Yeah it's always a toughy, I see why so many go for the VW, but for me it was always a no from my personal preferences i.e. 1). I can't stand VW tbh, 2). Diesel engines 3). I think they're a little under powered 4). Everyone has them (but good reason is they make the best use of space as they're designed for van purposes)... just not my thing... I love being different and having this and modding it a little, love it, just even love looking at it looks cool. Also gets lots of looks when out and about. I also love the V6 engine, nice and smooth, ultra reliable as it's a Lexus engine as well... parts easy to come by for that engine if needed so...

Yeah everyones different and want a different thing... but for me, just the cool JDM thing, always fancied owning something that's lived it's life over there... why who knows.

Sold my 2004 camper a few months ago, that I owned for 3 years total. Put 30k miles on it.

Only issue in that time was the starter motor which sized up, which was a £100 part and a half hour job to replace.

20 years old and not a spot of rust on it. Lovely to drive. 29mpg at 60 on the motorway. Only reason I sold is that I have a long commute now.

If I could sack off the commute and/or get driveway space for an extra motor I would buy another in a heartbeat. It totally converted me to Toyota, they are just so much better engineered than other brands.
Yep agreed nothing touches a Toyota or a Lexus product... the fanboys for German cars can say what they want, if you want pure reliability you go Japanese it's simple.

:( ah man. I bet that's a big hit to your pride. It happens, we're not perfect.

Bummer, that sucks dude :(

Should be a fairly easy fix though, just looks like some plastic bits.

Not much of a camping person - but absolutely love this. Some retro vibes I get from the styling as well.
The interior fit out is special - really nice.

Read the last page and got the sinking feeling ... now you will never make that mistake again, but ouch.
Hope it doesn't cost too much to fix!

Aaah dude that sucks, I do wonder if people have done this with an electric car as well. driven off while it's still plugged in, would be a costly error I guess

Mine won't let me drive off when plugged in.

I made a post about it a while back - I "almost" did it in my Pug (or at least I was testing if it was possible).

Can't remember what I did, but the handbrake was definitely disengaged - perhaps not in gear/drive tho.

Yeah well guys I was absolutely raging after I did it... but like people say **** happens... so, it's going in for full respray and fix on bumper, stapled, plastic welding etc... plus I'm getting a new grille as I think that the front grilles on these age them a little... £400 rips all in so... will be done in next couple of weeks... so annoying though literally thrown money away hahaha

This thread bump is optimal timing as I'm looking to buy an Alphard camper towards the end of the season.

I've been researching for a while but the market is full of scammers or chancers wanting too much money for old rope.
I'll keep an eye out for you some really gorgeous ones come up recently... what's your spec and price (or PM me) and I'll keep an eye out mate. Year, cost, conversion, colour, engine etc... I know a fair few
