Toyota Alphard Camper - BOUGHT & EXCITED -

Dropped and replaced the Diff Oil (0.9 litres), dropped and replaced the gearbox oil and filter (4.7 litres so will do it again later in the year as thats' only 50% as they say around 8.5 litres so obviously the rest is in the torque converter etc)... few other bits like doing the spark plugs was a ball ache as rear manifold has to come off...

I am seriously tempted by one of these! Is there any buyers guide that helps understand the model variants? There is a bunch on AutoTrader ranging from 6k through to 16k! I am looking for a 3L that I can do a conversion on over many years --- focus initially is using it as a van/work horse, then leisure car (bikes etc) and then potential camper?

What's the MPG like on this?
I'm around 25mpg right now in a mixture of driving so, it's where I expected it to be and considering it's a 3.0ltr V6 plus all the weight, yep can't complain

Not really and to be honest the only real things you need to know are, 2.4ltr is a cam chain... BUT is the only slightly notorious (in my opinion), engine Toyota did and I believe it has a little bit of oil burn... also they're only 160bhp... which for tootling around yeah all good, but as a caravan type thing I believe the 3.0ltr V6 (220bhp and cam BELT annoyingly) is the better engine as it's less stressed and obviously smooth. Other than this, now and then the electric door motors can fail but other than this they're bomb proof and also rust proof as pretty much all panels are galvanised.
Also you have the 10 series (mine), then in 2008 you had the 20 series, slightly more toys, slightly different design etc but fundamentally the same vehicle really. Also, the Vellfire is the top of the range one generally, so leather interior, in the 20 series reclning seats etc

Those decals will make it go faster ;)
I've calculated 23bhp per side... easily! hahaha

Brill thank you, is series 10 just anything pre-2008 then? It is hard to browse on AT as everyone puts the import year in rather than the car year!

Like, this one looks today but unsure if its missing any gear?

Yeah but within that pre 2008, there's the pre and post facelift, mines a post facelift and can have cruise control fitted for £15 quid, the pre face lift (that one you have posted), takes £1k to get cruise control to work. I'd go post facelift i.e. my style if I was getting one matey!

Gotcha, is an easy way to spot a facelift to see the headlights?

Pug - where did you put the trailer -you never got all that kit in that van did you ?
Yeah was loads of room, all went inside with the 13 year old sitting in the seat at the back, it's surprising how much you can get in and we're getting another awning tent soon so they'll be two... and we're going upto Scotland in it on 20th... 1 week camping and 1 week in a cottage...

we still haven't seen pics of how the bed in the pop-up works ... children get that ?

( using phone as hotspot , or, android auto(waze),car-play worked fine ? )

It's just up a Conway Campers getting something done I'd noticed on the pop box while in warranty... I'll get it back and do a video of how the pop top and the sleeping works.

As for the phone as hotspot, yeah it's sound because generally say when I go on holiday this month, I'll download the Google map anyway onto the head unit so, even if still tethered, if I lose signal I still have that map. Plus, I've also got copilot on it anyway which I bought years ago so, always got sat nav. As for Spotify, I generally download my playlists anyway so they're just stored on the headunit as well. I've not bothered linking android auto on this unit but on the SRT8 I do use it there.
