Toyota Yaris GR4 4x4 Rally going into production.....

On it, but that’s normal for all hot hatches I find. I’ve sat in most bar a recent civic.
Such a shame but you are correct. I do seem to recall the old Mk5 GTi I had could get really low but my R8 was a sit on as I seem to think from my brief drive was the current Civic too, though that is a hard act to follow, aesthetics aside. I think the Civic is the pinnacle of licence losing. Hooligan motor.

Some of the old hot hatches did have good driving positions.

I find a lot of the modern ones quite awkward though. It feels almost like driving a van with some of them. I sold my mk7 Fiesta ST because I just couldn't get comfortable in it :/

They should just stick this engine in the next GT86. But I think they have already decided on a larger boxer. I guess for a GT car you need something smoother.

Not a fantastic video - but potential RS Fabrications customers had asked for a static sound test comparison to know what would be ok on track. I merely clipped the footage together from someone's phone with the perceived average values from the DB meter:

Hopefully I can get out to get some decent clips of each exhaust option at some point.

To be fair that video isn't exactly a great representation of how they actually sound. Hopefully I'll get to get some proper recordings of them all soon for comparison rather than 15sec clips of each from someone's phone.

Sounds much better in person, better than a 4 pot. Just not great as sustained revs, but going through the range they sound much better and a bit raspy.

But are you going off the inside sound? Because that is 100% fake. It's not even a sound pipe from the intake (like on the gt86), it comes through the speakers.

For me the inside fake sound I enjoy it and the factory basic stereo is also fine.

I won’t be fitting an exhaust however for noise as I feel it’s just noise and I do like the fact the car is somewhat quiet on the outside it means I can drive the wheels of the car and go somewhat un-noticed which in a car like this which eggs you in I like the somewhat stealth.

Of course if changing an exhaust component yields a very strong gain without impacting noise too much I could be tempted.

So far the best bang for buck as to speak seems a DTUK tuning box at £500 for 30HP or there abouts but I’m holding off and seeing what comes as SVM are promising 300 / 320 and 350 packages so will be interesting what the packages involve and what they cost.

Now I’ve had the opportunity to properly open the car up and drive it flat out it is a car that absolutely loves to be driven very hard and is superb at the limit. Though it is fun on a sunny day I’ll take the S2000 nearly every time and on a roll I suspect the acceleration difference is hardly any different, the Yaris of course is quicker off the mark a little but on a roll doubt there’s is much in it and the only mods on my S2000 is a bit of weight loss, Ohlins and my own mods to factory air box for noise and additional cold air. Both cars are amazingly chuckable and very good on the limit again the Ohlins and alignment was a transformation to the S2000 so it’s a little unfair in a way as the GR Yaris handles on a par with a well modded S2000 but the roof down and that 9000rpm engine and rawness will always have a stronger pull for me on a sunny day.

I think my revisit of the S2000 has shocked me truly what amazing cars they are as a weekend/fun car, the Yaris is vastly superior as a daily though even though it has its weaknesses too.

I've heard 2 systems in person, mid silencer + straight rear & a full straight system. Full straight was a bit much for daily use, sounded cool but OTT for the style of car. Mid silencer with rear straight section was about right I'd say.
I am torn on the exhaust front as I also quite like going unnoticed, but the problem for me is the car doesn't feel special until you've really giving it some. But that's a criticism of basically all modern cars IMO and a big part of the reason I got the 4C, it feels fast stood still.

Early days yet, not gone past 4k rpm anyway. Need to find some essential journeys to make!

Going off the RS Fab system now, as I think they now want an exchange on your old exhaust and they weld the new to it..
Cobra system is looking good, bolt on, sound seemed okay and price okay.

Seems my test drive concerns may also be getting resolved, one of lack of engagement and “fun” at more sane speeds. I see whiteline in OZ have developed new front bushes and camber bolts, plus geometry changes apparently makes the car more responsive, less turn in understeer, a bit of lift off over steer and more adjustable on the throttle. All sounds promising, feeling a bit happier now I didn’t cancel.
