Toyota Yaris GR4 4x4 Rally going into production.....

I don't think the i30N is really a comparable car - it was never 'limited' in the way the Yaris GR is (albeit howmanyleft would suggest it has barely sold so there are very few about) and whilst a very very good hot hatch, that's ultimately all it was - a good hot hatch from an unpopular manufacturer. Also bear in mind that whilst it may have launched at £29,500, that's exactly the sort of car that would have been all over carwow, DtD, Broadspeed etc. with massive discounts - I would be surprised if the cars were only available at the list price, especially given how low the sales volumes seem to be.

I don't think it's a good indicator of how you should be expecting the Yaris GR to fare in the market.

That said, buying a new car is normally a good way to lose a big chunk of money fast, with rare exceptions. You should be prepared for that as a potential.

Fair points, I guess I'm just not used to new cars. Pretty sure I could run a 981 GT4 for the same money, but that would be as unappealing on a greasy winter day as the 4C - the Yaris however would be perfect.

I would also caution getting sucked in too much on 'limited' numbers - as you say, if they end up with 3000 cars in the UK, that's actually quite a lot for a specific model/trim of a car.

You can download data for vehicle registrations if you want to see how many of a particular vehicle is currently on the road.

Take something like the Toyota GT86 - not a limited car by any stretch, currently 6500(ish) on the roads

The Alfa 4C in all its guises only tallies up to 400 odd currently registered cars.

3000 Yaris GRs is a big number for a limited car.

I30N was never anything special. The current Focus ST is quicker, has a better engine and is around the same price.

Quite like this new Yaris but cant see it as a daily driver given the interior quality and manual box. Would love to blat one around some B roads especially through autumn/winter.

Yaris or A35 thoughts? both 4wd, both fairly quick. Pretty sure the yaris would be better from a pure driving perspective but the merc has it on the daily driver side id expect.

Id also assume you wont lose a penny on the yaris if you had one for a year or two....

Well personally I’m not interested in any hot hatches, except this one. A35 I’m sure is a better daily but it’s dull as dishwater in comparison. Different strokes for different folks.

I'd imagine a vast amount of buyers probably already have a Ferrari and a Porsche 'classic' sitting in their barn.

It's not really a sensible commute car. Low height at the front, useless rear seats and boot etc.

Gotcha, makes a lot of sense if the 4c is your daily. It does look a hoot from the vids I’ve seen. Can’t imagine you will lose a penny on it for a couple of years and the zero % finance offer makes it a steal. What colour you getting?

If I had the money and needed something to cover 4-5K per year, I'd get one of these. It's like a modern version of the 205 T16, also spawned due to the WRC and looks like it would be useable in any conditions, which could be massive fun (and massively convenient). Residuals should be pretty decent too.

I'm struggling to be convinced they'll actually hold value that well if it's true that 3000 vehicles will be delivered to the UK.

It's a special car but that's a lot for a 'limited' run.

Whenever it’s too soggy to enjoy the 4C. Will also do a couple track days per year I think.

For me it will share daily duties with the Alfa Quadrifoglio I plan to get to replace M5. Alfa when I need to carry more than two people or a dry day and Yaris GR when it’s a wet cold day or I just want to drive like a nutter and I hope to tune it somewhat, 350HP / 1250kg should be pretty rapid. These pair will be the cars to put miles on and the rest of the fleet for special occasions and the S2000 only really comes out on warm sunny days. :)

You have an outrageous garage now Gibbo, if the GR passes your inspection then that’s surely a good sign.

Just signed up for flat white, I love the Pearl but I’d rather have that £900 or so towards a remap and some stupid 90s rally stickers.

This, and it’s still my chief concern. It has to absolutely blow me away on the test drive for me to go for it, I’m absolutely not used to spending this kind of money.

I'd much rather daily this than some plushy German understeer machine, with no character and numb controls :p

What engine is this the ? I keep seeing mention of tuning it, is there options already? Anything over 300bhp on a 1.6 triple strikes me as pretty high!

1.6 3 cylinder turbo G16E-GTS with forged pistons from the gazoo assembly line. HKS are running a GR with 300bhp stage 1 and it's completely fine and rapid

Okay, so maybe gibbo is optimistic with a 350bhp ;)

Guess depends on commute, guess I could tolerate something like this :D

Am sure 350 is possible but if not 300 is ample as is the 260 it comes with. :)

Be months before I take delivery and by then more will be know on tuning side and if it can’t be tuned it’s no hardship.
