Track Day Sound Limits

Guy from track day organisers has pointed out day time static is 105db at Snetterton, which is good news.

He has confirmed it's a half meter test though, so I guess I'll be back out there with my tripod and sound meter to check that!

Normally 3/4 max revs.

You can normally get away with a little less too. I always got asked for 5000rpm but I knew that 5000rpm was about 6db louder than 4750rpm.

When you're at the track day just press the throttle gently to build it up, don't blip it or go over, just keep it a little bit under unless they tell you to give it a bit more :) Or just get really friendly with the people that do it so

The static is usually easy to pass for most cars, just don't use that many revs. Having more than one exhaust exit sometimes helps too.

The drive-by ones are harder. Most circuits will tell you where the measuring points are, some even have them sign-posted. If there are any issues you have 3 options:

* Exit the track-day.
* Lift-off where the measuring points are (very common, even at motorsport events).
* Buy a bolt-on silencer like you have linked to above but you'll need one for each exhaust exit so can be an expensive fix or use packing of some sort.

You'll usually get a warning first and a chance to rectify, might get a second chance too but after that if there's any infringements yer oot :D

This is what I'm thinking. I just tested again, knowing it's 50cm and between my two exhausts - 103.5, but I think I touched on 5,500rpm. As you say, slowly creep to just below whatever they asked :)

Having more than one exhaust exit sometimes helps too.

That's me, so hopefully it will help.

Thanks for the tips guys.
