Trackday Car .....

This is very tempting ..... But surley these are horrifically expensive when they go wrong ?

What BHP are they standard, the evo is 321 isnt it ?

They aren't that expensive other than if you get an SMG. Parts are relatively cheap for what the car is, and used spares are in abundance these days.

Standard for the 3.2 is indeed 321 (although hardly any ever seemed to make that on the rollers). The 3.0 is apparently the stronger (and certainly simpler) engine with only single VANOS, there is less to go wrong, it still makes a healthy 286BHP, and you can easily get them up to 3.2 levels of power.

Hmmm i need to look into this E36 M3 idea, i was seriously thinking about a 328i after my discussions with gareth but this just seems to make sense. Sure my cash will only get me the car but that in standard form im sure is great fun, a few £1000 over the next year would see it being a great little track car :)

I need to have a long hard think, nick gareth and el hope your on Mirc tonight :p

The clio and integra are cracking cars but i think i would find them a bit tame after the scooby / vx220 Turbo .... And alltho im sure it would be fun for a while i would get bored quite quickly ....

you can get the weight right down as well, try to get one with the original forged alloys and not some aftermarket jobbies as the forged ones weigh very little :D
polybushed rear is a must as is short shift and aftermarket steering wheel (the std bus item is way to big for track use)
the std exhaust is quite a heavy item as well so maybe a supersprint or similar
e36coupe forums are a minefield of info

Didn't realise when we spoke that m3 's were available at this price.

Only thing is I'd bet a tricked 328 would be faster than an m3. Stating this as with r888's on the right track I see no reason why this wouldn't be the case. Happy to stand corrected though :-)

I can't see that myself. M3 has more power, better handling/suspension from the off, surely it will out do a modified 328i.
