Trading the stockmarket (NO Referrals)

Just hanging on barely to profits
now over the year. Still 20% up over year but these constant daily drops are eating into profits, another week will be break even!

My LUNR punt crashing (well landing sideways again) didn’t help.

Interesting video on Trump, Agent orange activated!

This is a really stupid question but how much money do you need to have available to make investing in the stock market worthwhile? I have some savings but not much.
Whatever you think is right.

The more you play with, the more you can gain... And the more you can also lose.

There's no reward without risk and you only need to ask yourself if you can weigh up the potential reward against the risk.

If you treat it like gambling then you will lose a lot of money.

You can get some cash ISAs close to 5% and trying to beat that in a market as volatile as this one is challenging. The ongoing trade shenanigans of the US are making the whole market a little uneasy.

I sold out everything just before deepseek came out (by luck), I have some RKH but that doing fine.

I am thinking to hold out before I jump back it. If I get it right this time thats my retirement sorted.

Typical thread answer, I sold right on the high and magically timed it so I bought in right on the low , so stoked I kept my powder dry :p
Actual answer still holding Nvidia and intel , Nvidia had an even more brutal sell off overnight but has bounced a bit since .
Still got my prediction that I will break even next week with the ai conference (in at 113) confidence in my prediction 55 percent, higher maybe but at least I do give before the event predictions not Hans Christian Anderson story's

i have to wonder would a recovery would look like in stock market and global standings if Mr trump were prematurely removed.

If Trump was impeached within the next few weeks, I imagine the stock market bounce would be quite significant. It would signal decisive action by Congress and restore trust that the U.S is on the side of democracy. However, the longer the present situation goes on, the worse things will get and trust won't be won back so easily. The stock market hates any uncertainty ; without a change in direction this could go on for years.

Anyone bought back in? I'm particularly looking at RR - down @ 738 now.
Nope, holding at the moment ... and probably will until the whole thing blows over ( could be a long time ). Have considered pulling all stocks, while my losses are minimal, but the timing isn't quite right with respect to preserving ISA status on a large chunk of those funds. Will have a rethink at the start of April.

I'm still at the stage of "If I had just sold...".

Me and my friends discussed it a few weeks ago pulling out of things, but similarly a lot of my stuff is in funds (like many of us). I have a big holding of bank shares (share save maturity season has just passed), however the dividends sort of cover the drop and I have no need to sell them for the money right now - apart from just spreading the risk.

Problem is I think even a lot of the global funds are quite heavily weighted to the US currently, so are feeling the pain.
I'm starting to wonder if my 'two years cash' reserve is enough. :p
That's still only two years into this idiots term.
UK investors in those funds have also been hit harder because the pound has strengthened quite a bit in a short time. Unlike the 2022 when the pound weakened a lot and shielded UK investors from the falls a bit. Of course this is in hedged funds, not individual stocks.

Appreciate you are retired so its different, but most of us here are still accumulating, people should be hoping for a massive crash to buy cheaper units rather than panicking. The way I see it the global economy will recover long term so trackers will march higher eventually, of course there is no such certainty with individual stocks.

Trading212 S&S ISA - Vanguard S&P 500 acc and Vanguard FTSE All World acc 70/30 split and that's me done when it comes to trading

Aye, Looks like my April's 20k ISA S&S allowance is gonna get pumped into S&P (assuming Reeves doesn't hobble the ISA allowances). Gotta be in it to win it!

Sell now and hold on to it. It's still going to drop a lot more I think.

NASDAQ is on a downward trajectory still and will be until the trade nonsense stops. Any US holdings should be on everyone's sell list.

I sold all of my US stocks after the election last year. Glad I did!

I would never advise anyone to sell unless there's a majority risk percentage of bankruptcy. It's not a loss til cashed out and with the chance of an uptick at any time given how frantic this has been I think anyone would be silly to crystalise a loss now.

I'm less confident about the SnP regaining it's top of the pile status.

I'm not sure if irreparable damage is done.
This is unlikely but I have concerns the RotW is going to try to escape American companies. Trump is so erratic who's to know what's coming.

If you go moderate.. Persistent tariffs, leaving NATO, sky High valuations, theres a lot of scope that this is the top for a very very long time.

Go a bit further.
What happens if Trump literally allies with Putin? What if America becomes a dictatorship? What happens if Europe literally starts spending everywhere else (Inc China). If we really annoy him could it be more than tariffs?

To get back to pre Trump... How far is that in the future? Feels a long way.

I guess on balance I barely see any positive outcomes.. But there are edge case very very bad outcomes.

For the first time ever.. I don't know what to do with my pension. Where else is better than the Vanguard all world Acc? It's still heavy into the USA
My pension is following a very similar fund to VWRP. I was 36% up, I'm now at about 15% up I think. I'm sure that will go down too. It's too late to bail now though I feel. I'm 47 so it has a lot of time to recover and I'll continue buying in at the lower prices.

Annoyingly I bought into VWRP in my ISA around September last year and I think that is now negative on my purchase price. Tad annoying. Like my pension I'll just have to leave that now and wait too. But who knows if waiting is the right thing to do?!

I'm still thinking about removing some money out of the US based funds - the drop has hit already though. Rather just wait a little to buy lower, which my regular payments are already queued to do

Just leave it - Why crystalise the loss... You've taken a hit...

Time in the market is better than timing the market....
