Trading the stockmarket (NO Referrals)

Anyone bothered with Junior ISA? Or is it easier to just add the money into my own ISA? I was thinking of getting my little ones set up and start putting in now so they're sorted a when they leave school/college which is years away yet :p

Yes, we've got accounts for the kids. We're not putting too much money in just in case they do blow it all on blow and hookers when they are 18. but once they are old enough I'll use it to teach them about saving and investing, and try to get them interested looking after their own finances.

Back into ATAI yesterday. Compass Pathways (CMPS) had a positive trial readout but slightly worse effect than the market liked, and it tanked 50% which seems like a massive overreaction, particularly given the noises coming from RFK and the Peter Thiel connection with ATAI. First time I've bought CMPS directly as it's not in an ISA wrapper, but pretty confident of making at least a quick swing on this one, if not a nice chunk by the end of the year.

Funny how tariffs are now all forgotten. Its like they dont exist.

Was all smoke and mirrors in the first place - a great opportunity for inside traders to make an absolute killing. That's what it was all about, really, a cash grab, plain and simple.

A: Sell off loads of good stock
B: Create a crisis to tank the price, for example a 'trade war'
C: Buy back that same stock at a huge discount
D: Profit

Tariff extension date is 2 weeks away (9th July) and still the UK deal is the only trade deal. Selfishly waiting for a dip as I'm 2/3 cash

Don't hold your breath, you're not only trying to time the market, your trying to time what Trump and his cabal of insider traders & crooks 'may' or 'may not' do - so unless you are on his private council, you've no chance.

Personally I wouldn't sit on a load of cash now if I didn't need it any time soon. Best to start getting in the market and just ride the waves long term.

The only certainty right now is volatility. I'm 1/3 equities, 2/3 cash (ish) still. I have a basket of equities I like, and I'm dipping in and out when there are big movements on individual stocks. Going to hold AMD long term though as I pretty much bullseyed the bottom on that one.

I only hold a few equities atm which are 50:50 tech and psychedelics, which tend to move inverse of each other, so shifting cash back and forth between them is working quite well.

I suppose my question would be - Are you beating/doing better than the professionals?

What are you using to benchmark your performance against just investing it in some EFT/Funds and holding long term?

I'm always curious to understand why people self invest/trade/buy/sell etc when you can effectively take away all the time spent / hassle etc by just investing and holding...

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with what your doing but curious to know / understand why people do this....

Just taking VWRP as an example - all world tracker - 0.22%

From May 31st 2025 Cumulative performance -

1 month 5.7%
1 year - 13.7%
3 years - 42%
5 years - 87%

Can you perform better than that? If you can - fair play.

Again - not picking on you... You do you... But always curious to understand why people self invest in equites / trading stuff when you can spend time doing something else and for very little costs - allow professionals to do it for you
