Trading the stockmarket (NO Referrals)

Bad luck on some of those mate but its a long term game this one, i'm trying my best not to look back and think what i should have done, i should have stuck much more money into RKH when i had the chance at 182 but you live and learn, i'm hoping my 4k ish i've invested will turn into around 6 - 8k, given the market and the forcasts for the likes of RKH, LDP and RRL i can see that working out, then i'm going to take that 8k and pile it into two companys instead of the spread of 4 i have at the moment.

which 2????

:)

I think its time to change my broker, sold out about £8k from one investment and spread it into a couple of these popular shares. 1 sale + 2 purchse = brokerage of £45!

I think I will keep the majority of my long term investments where they are at the moment but maybe day trade with someone thats a bit cheaper! Any suggestions?

Anyone else watching salamander energy and / or Quintain Estates?

(Sorry should every post refer to DES, RKH and RR? :D )

I'm new here and just stumbled across this.

I've been trading for about a year now, nothing massive, but I noticed in the first post someone said you will lose more than you make in the first year. What are everyone else's experiences with this? Point me in the right direction if this has already been discussed.

Personally, I've made about 25% over the last year, I don't know how this compares to other people but I thought it was pretty good. I'm especially happy because it's just funded all the bits for a new build :)

I made around 300% over the last year however I lost 75%ish the year before so in total I am around 63% up over 2 years. However I have just invested the money I got from selling my house so if I can manage another 15 to 20% I will be over the moon.

I hold a small amount of LDP as a punt - a friend who has a ridiculously good record says they're on his "dont ever ever touch" list but I say I reckon they've bottomed out now and it's up from here! Perhaps not yet though - a month or two before it rises decently offhand.

The lack of drilling new wells for oil, warm summer and demand for gas plus rising gas prices are going to be key to LDP shares going up, all these seem to be in place for this summer, fingers crossed!

Hey guys

The FTSE 100 opens at 8 and closes at 4:30pm right?

Well does anyone know why on iii its showing the UK 100 Rolling Spread as still open and fluctuating?

slightly confused here, I thought it would've closed ?

it never stops because people are trading it all the time based on the potential opening of the markets tomorrow therefore the spread always is changing

Its been an ok day today, most things finished up vs yesterday, some nice gains, pleased RKH finished back over the 290 mark, that was one of my wishes for today.

Well its come after markets closed:

BP's directors plan to suspend the oil giant's dividend payment, the BBC has learned.

BBC business editor Robert Peston says that the directors are to meet on Monday to make a formal decision.

However, any formal announcement will not be made until after negotiations with the US president on Wednesday.

BP has been under intense pressure from the US government, which wants BP to use the money to pay for the Gulf of Mexico clean-up.

Meanwhile, BP's shares closed 7.2% higher in London, fully recovering the losses suffered the previous day.

"In practice, Monday's discussion at newly instituted weekly meetings of the board will be about when to suspend the payments, how long to suspend the payments, and what to do with the billions of dollars that would be saved and not paid to shareholders," Robert Peston said.

Looks like BP shares could take another drop on monday and perhaps a huge drop on wednesday, think my holding off point well come to an end when markets open on Thursday.

I have read that they are only going to be put into an Escrow until the full costs are better understood.

Shame though as my dividend buys more shares.
