You can do that already, just sit roughtly 1 car length back from the line and go on red+amber. But I recon people will start going when it's showing the last few bars to that they cross the line when it goes green.

That is a really cool and simple idea!
I know in Glasgow there is a timer for pedestrians. Red writing counting down until it is safe to cross. I like the idea of that combined with this new system.
Surely won't work with most of our traffic lights with demand sensing. Better to have traffics lights that detect demand rather than ones with countdown timers.

Where?!

The crossing on argyle street is one of them.

What's the point in the progress bar? Why not just have a red and then it changes to a 3, 2, 1.
Great concept though.
Should have it on the green light too. Gives you an idea of whether to gun it or not to make the green![]()
Also, cars at idle now don't really pollute that much these days... and stopping and turning off your engine surely creates more pollution?
It's tempting to say that, but if it was true we wouldn't see stop-start.
Meh......rather money was invested in more intelligent systems.
I am quite happy with giving sets of reds main beam at night to force a change![]()
