Ok I just wanna put this out here. Am I the only one whos really annoyed with trailers these days? Its like they put up a few moments from a film, and a couple of actor / actress shots and call it done. Its been a very long time since I actually saw a trailer that tells you what the film is about. I personally think thats the most important thing to know!
Basic trailer layout:
action shot
actor reaction
action shot
actress reaction
film name

no hint of anything else. Really irritates me. Infact you have to search hard around youtube for extended trailers and even fanmade trailers to find one that explains anything...
Tell me I'm not alone in this POV!

I absolutely hate seeing trailers that show you too much!

What's the point in watching a film for the first time if you already know what's going to happen, or you have already seen the best scene in the film?

I simply avoid trailers for most things.

I'm all for trailers not showing the entire film. But just about every single film trailer I see now I'm left with one question. Wtf is the film about?

I hate it as well when trailers show most of the action and only have like one extra scene which they haven't shown in the trailer.

The trailer should set the story up without telling you what it's about IMO. Trailers that show all the good bits of the film annoy me.

With this chappy.

Trailers obviously cherrypick the best bits, so you've seen most of the cool action before even seeing the movie.

I paid like £10 to see the new Ghostrider film in 3D, it was the trailer plus some boring filler :(

didnt you watch the first one? that was terrible too...

OP: i actually find they often give away too much and can ruin a movie.

admittedly they seem to be the USA trailers rather than the international ones. the yanks seem to need help with complex things ;)

That's the idea. You watch the film to find out what it's about. It is a great way to 'sell' a film to people because it makes you wonder.

It's a much better approach than saying "an aeroplane crashes, only 4 people survive and there is a killer amongst them".

i personally like when trailers don't show you anything about the film other then perhaps the tone. seems a sensible way to say hey here's a film, we don't want to show you the plot, but we need to let you know it exists

I absolutely hate the trailers that make you go into a film knowing all about the plot and being able to tell what is going to happen. Trailers should be mysterious and make you want to know what happens in the film, not give you a 2minute summary of the thing.

I find that most trailers give a bit too much away or use all the best bits.

I know that the adverts are meant to entice people in to seeing the film but sometimes I feel that I might as well just watch the trailer as the rest of the film is just filler material.

Part of it seems to be the hype factor.
A perfect example is Avatar, they kept everything under wrap for almost up until the release date, there were very very few clips released.
Battleship seems to be similar, although the trailers improve as we get closer to release dates and more linking scripts are available.

Battleship first trailers were good, now the second ones have just shown what the movie is about, totally ruined it for me !

This is irritating in games as well, at the moment Bioshock Infinite is releasing videos about all the enemies you can find in the game, surely its better to find out as you go along instead of having it all ruined for you.
