Transport Fever 2

After a few of the campaign missions I switched to the sandbox mode. I started in 1850 and it's now 1913 and I've got £150 million. It's going well!

Still got a couple of issues where I want to transport "gears" by rail to a dock, by boat to the next dock, then by truck around a city and the game can't "see" the connection and won't load the gears onto the initial train :(

Soooo coming from OTTD this is a bit weird...

I have a distillery with a 4 lane station next to it (2 lanes up and down for the input and 2 lanes up and down for the output). The station is accepting the input jut fine. But cant seem to be used to deliver the output by the distillery... It appears in the factory but eventually just goes away..

Am i doing something wrong or do i really have to use multiple stations next to one factory? The 2 lines look ok, and they go to the different terminals of the station..

My station is like so

= platform
- rail

UPDATE

I must be doing something wrong because a second station doesn't even do it..

Is your railway station for the gears (machines) connected to the Factory? When you click on the station, does the factory light up white? And do you definitely have the right cargo carraiages on the train!

Unless I am mistaken, sounds like your saying all 4 lines are in use in which case you will need to ensure there are Cargo platforms next to all the lines, put a cargo platform between the two lines in the middle and should solve it. Platforms are used to both accept goods from the station, but also act as an output spot from the factory for the goods to stack up before being taken away by the train when it arrives.

Hmm, still nope :( Tried putting another platform in the middle splitting the 4 lanes but the factory output doesnt stack up on any of my platforms.

The two lanes up and down seem to get ignored at stations. Multiple trains dont use both lanes and wait at the signals further back instead. Dont know if thats causing the problem..

What about the stations that are receiving the Goods? Are these set up properly? Once the goods get to the station, do you have truck stops and lines setup to deliver the goods?

Ooo interesting! i had everything but a line for trucks ready to go at the other end. After putting the line in the cargo appeared on my station. I wonder if the splitting platforms was needed hmm. Ta!

There you go. Unless you have a complete route setup from factory to final destination, the factory won’t load the goods onto the cargo platforms.

I'm really getting into this game now, especially as I've been doing "from 1850" scenario. It's the 1960s now and I've set up a couple of air routes on de Havilland Comets (what could go wrong!) and also, for some reason, set up some long distance bus routes and motorways. The "first person" camera is quite good and shows some amazing details, like how the cars on the road are a mix of 1930s to 1960s, there are a few concrete high rise monstrosities going up (or a lot of them in what I've decided is my "capital" city). I ended up just riding the bus all the way from Slough to Kempston. Even people's clothes reflect the broad fashion of the time! It may be I've left a few horse and carts roving the streets for good measure :D

If anyone's interested in playing the same seed and settings, a few people I know are using the following. Starting now until midnight on Christmas Day. Highest company score wins :)

Make sure you have the same settings and the 'iliketrains' in the seed so the map looks the same.

Gave it a shot :) Currently at 61. Don't know exactly what influnaces the score, but don't think there is going to be too much more room to grow. Most of my industries are tapped out so towns not going to grow too much more, its ran for years in game time :o

How do the train station mods work? I thought great i can lay down a passenger station and add a cargo mod and I can drop of frieght without the need of two seperate stations. However the factory is not producing goods to be dropped off and yes my supply chain is working.

Have you made sure you added a Cargo platform also. Also, the station is still almost treated as two separate stations, so for your cargo line, need to make sure that the cargo platform / cargo box item is selected in the cargo chain, not the passenger platforms. Here is an example of a current Passenger and cargo station combo I am using:

MgJICpR.jpg

Train in red circle is just about to drop off 100 spanners at cargo platform. Can see to the left of that, the passenger lines are working as expected. Off to the bottom of the station I also have a cargo building side connection. Just off screen there is a Cargo Lorry hub to distribute the spanners the train will drop off.

EDIT: Also add, make sure you have a supply chain at the side the cargo is dropped off at. Will only ship items on the train if there is locations around the station that use the cargo items. If there is nothing in the immediate vicinity (can tell by clicking on station then looking at buildings highlighted in white), then a supply chain is a must to get lorries to get cargo's to the right spot.

OK you win :p I'm on about 20 although only in year 2000 or so. If you leave the mouse over the score it gives more info :)

:p heh, I think though, hovering over the score (thanks for that), a lot of the points is down to profit and amount of people transported according to breakdown when I hover over it. No doubt suspect an additional 160 years game time is influencing that. Though where are the hover trains by that year :p
