Travelling to Hong Kong

The Langham Place is incredible. My first 3 trips were spent there. This time however we're doing things a little more budget friendly.

Glad you enjoyed it. You can take Raymond and I next time you go and leave your miserable friend at home. :p

I shall take you up on that offer :D

First arrived at the hotel and managed to check in 30 minutes early luckily enough, headed up and freshened up. We went to check out the mall and get ourselves acquainted with the surroundings and such. The staff were incredibly helpful in giving us a quick rundown of things. Few hours passed and we decided to head to Sky 100. Called for a taxi only to figure the driver didn't speak english and just drove off. Figured we'd head back to the hotel and ask for some help (atleast I did) and we got there shortly after. Sky 100 was pretty awesome but wasn't able to get that many good shots due to the light reflecting off the glass mirrors. There were a few photo fanatics there who had high end equipment including black shades to eliminate the reflection. The lift is supersonic too.

The next day we headed to the ferry terminal for Macau only to realize my friend didn't think he needed his passport -_-. So we had to head back to the hotel and back to the terminal just in the nick of time. Arrival into Macau was just another huge *facepalm* because he tried to walk straight past immigration without filling the card (this happened at HK airport too).

I think I'll try to refrain from mentioning his noob moments unless they are worthy of a laugh from now :p.

We were approached by a tour advisor in Macau who would drive us around for half the day for the price of $300HKD which seemed reasonable to us at the time as it meant we got to the Tower and got to see other famous places such as The Fishermans Wharf, Ruins of St Pauls etc. The bungee jump was pretty epic and by far one of the most memorable moments of my life. I didn't really feel that scared, it was only up to the point I was at the edge and looked down did I really feel it lol.

After a bit of sightseeing we headed towards the Holiday Inn in Cotai Central, checked in, had a bit of a relaxer and then headed towards The Venetian. The shopping area surrounded by the canals and sky wallpaper was pretty awesome, nothing that I'd ever seen before and to be honest it all looked as if it was outside, could have fooled me! Picked myself up a nice superdry wallet from there though the prices weren't that much cheaper than London, but I was in desperate need of one and was in holiday mood so what the heck :D.

The Casino was quite nice too, I was surprised at how big it was to be honest. Had a few rounds of roulette and blackjack and ended up winning about £50 on the night which was pleasing. We had a wander of the other shops in The Venetian and then headed back towards our hotel. At the traffic lights outside the casino we could see a bunch of women waiting to cross who were all dressed in very short/tight revealing clothes, my first assumption was they were about to hit the clubs or something, but then one of them decided to jaywalk and ran across and jumped in my face asking if I wanted a massage (turns out she was a prostitute and so were all the other ladies who shortly joined her). Trying to convince me to pay for a massage by showing cleavage and winking at me I told her no and began to walk off. Her last attempt was "but I'm sexy", but heck there's nothing sexy about catching something off them. Got back to the hotel and went downstairs to the bar for some drinks and I couldn't believe that there were more of them downstairs looking for some customers. It was quite funny because the security guards were keeping a close eye on them from afar but they seemed to have no idea :D.

We headed back to HK the next day and went to Festival Walk mall. This mall has some of the most visually spectacular set of escalators you will see in a mall it's the biggest memory that remains with me from this mall, as well as the ever so populated ice skating rink next to the food courts.

The next day was planned for Big Buddha but due to heavy rain and my mate deciding to wake up at 12 midday, we thought we'd give it a miss and check out the IFC mall instead. The Apple store is really quite spectacular at this mall and probably the best one I've seen to date. IFC mall is not really that amazing in my opinion but it was nice to go and visit regardless. We had planned to go to Ladies Market and wander Nathan Road that evening but my stupid self left the responsibility to my mate this time to figure out how to get there. He put the address on his iPhone and we set off (I knew where it was but he had done absolutely nothing or made no effort as of yet the whole trip so thought I'd give him the challenge). Thanks to him we didn't end up at Ladies Market but another road full of shops selling fish/rabbits/turtles and such. I literally facepalmed and told him to follow me back to ladies market. He seemed to find it funny but I was getting quite ****ed off about this.

Ladies Market was really fun and most stalls seemed to sell similar type of items/souveneirs so I guess it was a matter of finding the best deal. I saw a few belts which caught my eye and asked the lady how much, she gave me a figure of $280 for one belt to which I laughed because it seemed like a rip off (if it wasn't then I apologize to her :D). She managed to bring it down to $120 somehow which made me believe my initial thoughts. I offered $200 for 3 but she was inclined to let 3 go for only $250. I said no thank you and walked off. 5 seconds later I hear a lady shouting behind me and it's the same lady who grabs my arm and begs me to buy them. She was putting on quite some show but at that point I had changed my mind and told her no. She got really mad and gave me a slap on the arm and stormed off LOL. I'm not sure if I did something wrong here or if she just got mad at the fact she thought I was easy prey? Can someone shed some light on this? :P. In the end I ended up buying 5 T-shirts for $100 which seemed more like my kind of thing and set back to the hotel. We gave Nathan Road a miss because it started ****ing it down again with rain.

The visit to Big Buddha was fun, we took the MTR to Tung Chung and then the 360 cable car with the crystal clear cabin which was worth the extra $30 or so. Thankfully it wasn't too foggy but it rained for about 20 minutes up there but no harm done. What surprised me was there was literally a mini village between the cable car station and the big buddha which was nice to see, ended up buying some gifts and souveniers from there as well as a subway lunch (guess whose idea that was?).

Few other mentions of things I enjoyed:

- Harbour City Mall
- Avenue of Stars
- MTR (UK please take note of how trains should run)
- Pacific Coffee (loved this place their latte's are really nice)
- Toast Box (Morning breakfast combos <3)

There's plenty more things I have yet to mention but will do so later on, this has turned into a huge ass post as it already is lol.

Pictures coming soon, just gotta get rid of the junk ones :p.

Sounds like you had a great time, Elite. Bringing back some good memories for myself. :)

In all of my previous 3 trips I've never had to use a taxi once. MTR, Ferries and walking is all we need. The MTR took a little getting used to at first but I now know the stations and exits like the back of my hand.

Your friend comes across like he's never left the UK before lol, or at least had everything done for him on family holidays. :D

I really enjoyed it mate, the next trip will be even better I think because I have a basic understanding of what to expect there now, I'd definitely use the MTR/ferry more on the next visit. I'd also like to learn Cantonese and be able to use that to my benefit next time (currently learning Korean so will probably be after I've tackled that!).

Yeah well no comment about him haha.

I've got almost 750 pictures to share, where's the best place to do so? :p

Nice you will enjoy it! Where are you staying?

My mate has a apartment at one of the universities as she's got a sweet deal for the next few months. Full wage and living quarters in exchange for letting the students watch her work!
Making the most of no hotel bills!

Hope so, I've done Japan but never mainland asia. Will try and skip over the border if I can as well.

It is NOT that confusing when you are there !

I forgot to say you could take the MTR to Sky100, it is above another station, don't need Taxi at all, in fact, the only time I took a taxi was up and down the Peak really.

And Pacific Coffee, and I swear, the students there must be sponsored by Apple or something, even I was taken back how much Mac stuff they have !

The escalators indeed were not that confusing when you see them in person, just looks a bit complex in pictures :D

Yeah tbh I think we used the taxi too much first couple of days when we could have just used the train instead, but since taxis were so cheap it just felt like an easy option (but once we tried the train we stuck to them - not often I say that about public transport).

I saw plenty of people like you rightly said Raymond with massive samsung and sony phones, there were very few who had a small device lol. Having cellular data access on the trains is sure handy, pretty much guaranteed that atleast every other person will be on their phone or tablet in the MTR lol.

P.S. Loved pacific place, the Mango Manila Chillino is lovely

Just remembered to post here. Been back almost 2 weeks now but haven't really had time to go through my photos.

I did catch this though as it started a few days before we arrived and is immense!

Watch in full screen HD yummy goodness.
