Tri-Fire AMD Brethren

It would be expensive but with nothing on the horizon for quite a while, a tri 290 water setup could be a nice project if you can scrimp the cash together quick enough. :)

Been wanting Matt to get his feet wet for a while too. :D

Water cooling is the long term plan. I might try it on a cheap second hand parts rig first though to avoid any expensive mistakes. I am prone to the odd error, however i still maintain that vrm that got ripped off during my 7970 accelero removal was influenced by the hand of god.

Your far more patient than me at cleaning,, i just take mine out to the compressor in the garage and blast away :)
Probably really bad for it but its quick

So long Matt, we'll miss you at the next dual-crossfirers get together. Guess you'll be too busy drinking posh champagne with the trifire boys to remember us downing our pints of Stella. :D

I think Kaap uses 2 x 1200w for 4 and i am pretty sure he had a thread where we had to guess what he was pulling from the wall with a normal overclock. It was in the 1800w region if i remember correctly. To be on the safe side i would be looking at the 1600w psu as you like to push things.

Don't skimp on the PSU, GPUs use more watts @4K than they do at lower resolutions.

My Titans are doing horrible things to a 1500 watt EVGA PSU and I may have to replace it with a bigger one or even go the 2 PSU route.

Don't forget my 4 X 290Xs and 4930k was measured on Firestrike Extreme using 1778 watts at the wall.

I do use 2 x 1200w for that PC and strangely enough LtMatt guessed the usage figure (1778 watts).

I'm not responsible for this... Blame Kaap.

I take full responsibility, I did tell him all my games run as smooth as butter with trifire.:D:p:cool:

Yelp! My monitor Dual DVI port is knackered! I can get a display through HDMI and VGA but not through Dual DVI. Tried three different gpu's and a different Dual Link DVI cable. So my options are using VGA, not even sure if that is possible at 1440P. Buy a DP thingy, or rma the monitor. Answers on a postcard please.

Is VGA ok to use with no loss in image quality?

Or should i buy this DP cable?

Something to watch out for is rubbish Displayport cables, the one you linked could get you into trouble @4K.

This DisplayPort cable is perfect for high definition A/V connectivity from source to display. DisplayPort is a next-generation technology that delivers high bandwidth, pure digital audio/video signals from your PC to your display. Quality-made from 28 AWG copper wire, this cable is designed to deliver sharp, crystal-clear picture and sound, and is fully shielded to protect against EMI/RFI (Aluminium-wrapped, with a copper braid shield). This DisplayPort cable is tested to pass DisplayPort 1.2 specifications and support High Bit Rate (HBR) with a bandwidth of 10.8Gbps, 12 bpc (bits per component), 36 bpp (bits per pixel), and has a 120 Hz refresh rate. The HBR data transfer allows this cable to support resolutions up to 4k, 4096x2160.

The bandwidth needed for 4K @60htz iirc is about 17Gbs. The one above may work (I have got one with a similar spec) but my 17Gbs one works better with less hassle.
