Tri-Fire AMD Brethren

Yep all that disabled frosty. Ok it's looking like it might be Gen Filter. 8 Pack said to enable it in his guide, but only a few options left to check.

If throttling, make sure you're not working the VRMs too hard. The stock VRM cooling is of a poor design on the RIVE with many air coolers sticking heat sinks on the back with sometimes fans as well.

I believe we have found the culprit, the bios setting called Cpu Clock Filter Gen. No idea what its purpose is, but 8 packs x79 guide so it can help overclocking. Well It's now disabled no throttling, even with c states present. Touch wood. Maybe now (well tomorrow) the fun can begin.

Have you tried strap clocking? this got me to 4.5ghz :)

BCLK 129
CPU STRAP 125
CORE RATIO 35
LLC MEDIUM
CPU VCORE 1.28
PCI CLK SKEW -20
CPU CURRENT CAPABILITY 140%
VTT AND VCCIO 1.15

Expect quite high temps Matt. These bigger chips do get hot quite quickly.
I thought theese were pretty cool chips? Moreso than ivybridge and haswell, heat with theese under certain programs can be insane. Ie p95, mid-high 90's is pretty much the norm at stock.

I don't know what the setting will be called on the Asus boards but with msi x79 clocks would throttle if you didn't adjust the short and long term power limits, iirc something like 200w long and 250w short helped.

Nope, not tried the straps yet fellas. I'll do the best i can with 100 strap and once I've got the best i can ill try 125. At least with strap 100 it's fairly simple. I was getting 123 gflops earlier in intel burn with 4.5ghz and that cpu gen filter thing selected. With it disabled I'm now getting 158gflops and that's while im using the pc to browse ocuk. For reference my 5ghz 2700k used to get around 115 gflops.

Intel burn test, new version with latest linpacks.

4.5Ghz
2400Mhz
-0.060v offset
Regular LLC
H110 2x140MM Noctua Industrial 3000rpm on silent profile

And the voltage is still 1.320v lol. This cpu must have a really high stock vid i guess.

Use Prime Intelburn test doesn't really fall over ever. Or just use the machine

Use those settings for 30 to 40 minutes

And yeah your VID is quite high! No matter

Pretty much the same as Rob. When you add some volts, the temps soon go up. I have my cut off set for 80c and have hit that when running 5.1Ghz on 1.55v

if it passes 5 runs ibt max stress test its pretty stable, test further by general usage

it will fail in ibt if its not up to the job, thats all the stressing I ever do

EDIT: your temps are brilliant

Cheers will try some of those suggestions tomorrow. It passed 5 runs of IBT, so think it's stable, or close to it. Off to bed soon, but before i do i need to try Firestrike and see what my score is with 4.5 and gpu's at stock. Back in a pew.

my VID on my chip is 1.1309

Wow that is some difference compared to mine.

Anyway here's the firestrike score. I did it in Windows normal mode this time, yet still i don't get a valid score. Will have a proper crack for the scoreboard when i reinstall Windows. 875W from the socket on the first test. :)

SCORE
21628 with AMD Radeon R9 290(3x) and Intel Core i7-3970X Extreme Edition Processor
Graphics Score 30467
Physics Score 16228
Combined Score 8081

Nice power draw, you sai dyou would get a new psu eventually you decided which one?

Your cards are doing well (but they be better under water lol :P lol )

I have my gpu's undervolted on offset -0.050v, probably explains the decent power draw. :p

Here are the bios settings im using so far. Seems to be going well, will test more tomorrow.
