On topic: I've been loving the doombringer. The gatling gun thing seems almost OP, I can dominate people so bad in firefights cos they can't hit me when I'm in the air and even when I'm skiing on the ground they often miss. Is this just cos I'm playing against noobs or is that standard? I'd guess that better players would just run away from doombringers (as they are easily escaped from) and then fight only when they obviously have no energy left?

Think there just noobs lol. The only effective things a doom has is super heavy and force fields.

Does anyone know if they're going to add an Onslaught mode?

What's that?

May 22, 2012: Tribes Ascend Version 1.0.980.1

Major Highlights

Three new weapons have been added to the Brute class. Watch the Staying Alive Update video for additional information.
A “Watch Now” option has been added to the main menu. From this menu, you can view Featured Live Streams of Tribes from TwitchTV, as well as watch Featured YouTube Videos from Hi-Rez and the Community.
Players that have an active booster will be awarded 1,200 XP daily (at approximately 10:00 GMT). This is on top of your booster’s regular rewards.

NOTE: Upon installation of this patch, a small pre-requisite program will be run by the Tribes Launcher. This is an update to the game’s embedded browser in order to enable the “Watch Now” functionality.

Weapon/Balance Items

Added 3 new weapons for the Brute class:
The Gladiator fires a charged round that sticks to walls and releases multiple shockwaves. Detonates instantly in a focused blast if it hits an enemy.
The Plasma Cannon is the big brother to the Plasma Gun, firing balls of energy that explode on contact.
The Survival Pack increases maximum energy pool by 15, and can be modified for extra health and run speed, and energy regeneration.
The Rage Perk now grants 35% mass reduction against knockback while the player is enraged. (More powerful disk jumping).
Increased the distance from the flag the Rage Perk will activate by 33%.
Added an invulnerability timer to vehicle spawns, 2.25s from the time the vehicle spawns in.
Reduced collision size on Raider’s Plasma Gun projectile by roughly 12%.
Reduced damage on Infiltrator’s Jackal by roughly 4%.
Increased damage on Soldier’s Proximity Grenade by roughly 3%.

Additional Items

Fixed an issue in which some accolades were not showing up on the Profile screen.
Fixed an issue in which a deploying mine could be detonated obsolete by their owner.
Fixed an issue in which players could lose weapons when placing a deployable in certain high-lag situations.
Fixed an issue in which players in a passenger seat could be teleported into a vehicle they spawned, breaking several gameplay mechanics.
Fixed a bug in Team Deathmatch in which you could spawn on a “third” team.
Fixed an issue where players with the Pilot perk equipped could change teams instantly while they were in a vehicle.
Fixed an issue in which the game console could open while you were in the in-game web-browser.
Fixed an issue where swapping the Saber Launcher to a Repair Tool was still trying to target other players.
Players can only suicide once every five seconds.
Fixed an issue where deploying mines and then walking over them was causing them to explode.
Fixed an issue where the flag could sometimes “hop” as it came to a stop when thrown on a hill.
Fixed an issue where sticky projectiles could stick and explode targets differently between server and client.

You play it just like you used to. If someone takes your flag you try get it back.

Glad to see there still trying to balance weapons.

Had a 420kph grab yesterday but the route after grabbing sucks so although you grab fast you lose a lot of speed after. What's peoples thoughts on new patch?

I think the brutes stuff is a nice addition, makes him even more of a area denial character now, shame they didnt put any skins in for him he would've made an excellent bioderm :D

The thing I'm most surprised about is that the Brute weapons are pretty well balanced...

  • The gladiator is pretty much useless outdoors but does a ton of damage to base assets.

  • Survival pack is a nice alternative to the shield.

  • Plasma Cannon hitboxes are a little on the large side, it's no way near the Raider Plasma pre-nerf style of hitboxes but I occasionally see shots connecting that would normally miss, despite the forgiving hitboxes I still don't see the weapon as OP.

Regarding the other changes..

  • The Rage changes are interesting, but I'm not sure chasers are willing to drop the awesome perk that is Reach, it's just too good.. Be interesting to see if anyone uses this in comp play.

  • Since the Raider Plasma projectile reduction, I'd say that it's not OP any more, I've come across people using this weapon and stood a chance, pre-nerf I didn't.. was guaranteed death pretty much.

  • Proximity mines probably the most underestimated unlock in the game, was already very strong against incoming cappers, not sure why they would buff the damage.

  • Jackal nerf nice, but still not enough.

Very balanced patch, nothing really stands out as an issue atm.

Game felt pretty well balanced last night. Just the usual llamas to annoy me.

hurhur.

felt pretty well ok in the first few days of beta too till they started adding in mickey mouse weapons on top of the hit scans. I do sometimes wonder if anyone there but the boss played tribes, and he didn't seem to have much imput exept for the 2 weapon rule. it had nothing to do with the complexity of having to chose from 3 weapons, or even 4 or 5. the game was good, the best after a lot of work(even before), bad timing and releasing to an angry crowd, bad mixture.

and the llamas, shouldn't say it but tk/hurt did have it's uses in teaching people. drove more people away than made them stay though.

it's his money and i'm glad he's trying to get people to like the tribes franchise. that was always the goal. unreal engine though ffs. ;) they may have improved a little but it's still not up to tribes standards.
