Except that (expect for the few folk using external controllers) the controller chip is soldered into it!!

People have been running SSDs for a few years now without TRIM and hardly a bad word is said about them.
Makes me wonder if half the people scared off of these drives really understand what TRIM is, and how much and how quickly current generation SSDs suffer from degradation before it will become absolutely necessary.

Hideki - are you going to be updating the first post with which drives and drivers are supporting TRIM as people provide feedback - otherwise there's going to be a lot to wade through to make this useful?

cant get it to work dl'ed iso burnt to cd as expected - all IDE no - raid - reset drives with HDDERASE - nothing says device driver not found banana! Tried it all just the i disk in the first sata port all other hdd's unplugged - took a ssd to laptop - booted off same a fresh cd with new iso download burnt - same thing - something they not telling me or its all bullshine and I wasted MORE of my life banging about inside the case of a computer - what a to$$er aaaaaarghghg

ok install new firmware now - had to make USB msdos boot drive and copy the three exe files from the crucial iso. Then load list of files with dir/w and then run the appropriate exe for my drive ct64m.exe eg - then it was all over in 5 seconds

this is all confusing,why did i get a ssd for lol,anyway mines the crucial 64bit version could someone help a ssd newbie out with some simple step by step guides to this all at minute i have win7 rc1 7600 running till win7 is released i could do with all the help i can get as its baffling me loads and doing me tree in!!

What help is it you need, you dont detial any problems you are having?
If you dont actually have any problems, sit back and relax till Win7 release.
The manufacturer's will have any relevant firmware and drivers released then.
Mines sitting with Win7 very early build. No driver loads needed at install time, was pretty surprised by the speed of the install. Nice and responsive but have the goodies have expired on my build.
Damn, need to wait till my official copy on Thursday now!
SSD's fairly new tech so expect wear levelling algorithms et al to become ever more efficeint and watch that translate to improved performance.

well there's no problems,just curious as i hear all about this trim thing,updates firmware ect how you go about all that ect,also when it comes to re install of win7 do i just wipe the ssd like a hdd and its good as new again or do you have to use a program as such,hopefully someone will do a step by step guide to help us newbies out with what to do ect.

Can I update the Crucial firmware on any PC? The boot CD with CT128M.exe doesn't seem to run on the Win7 Enterprise 64 bit evaluation set up I intend to use it on (i7 Gigabyte system) . It does boot on my 32 bit XP machine but I run IDE drives on this but it has 2 x SATA sockets on the motherboard (not SATA II). Can I just plug the drive into one of these SATA sockets and update the firmware. I am "slightly" nervous about this process!

Mel its booting fron DOS, Win 7 does not get a look in,
you need to try again :0
a bootable usb flash drive unpack the file onto it change the bios to bbot from said usb drive aand all hdd/sdd to ide and it will work, change back after tge boot
