Of course, I realise when people make typos, use abbreviations or spell harder words correctly.
Dont you mean incorrectly

I hate text language unless its forum-speak we have all become accustomed to. The only things I generally forget are inverted commas, but that rarely causes any mis-interpretation (well except for were/we're)...

I just feel sorry for the people I know, that have things like auto-spellcheck on their Outlook, to me thats just plain lazy...

What about the sentence "I helped my uncle, Jack, off a horse". :D

Sometimes it's important, but 99% of the time it really isn't...
:p :p :p

Correct spelling and grammar is of paramount importance on a message board. In the absence of visual cues, like facial expressions and body language, your words are all you have.

So please take some time and employ a spell checker, lest you come across as a drunken halfwit who tripped and fell on the keyboard before pressing the "Submit Reply" button.

My brother, who is extremely intelligent but dyslexic, rarely uses forums because pedantic tools always tear into his spelling. When he does post he uses a spell checker, which often just exacerbates the problem since he has trouble spotting when it's replaced a word incorrectly.

It is a english speaking forum, and I can't stand having to figure out what someone's written in pidgeon english..!

Sorry to be a pedant, but it's a typed English language forum, not an English speaking forum. No-one is speaking here!

It always irritates me when people say "The letter said..." or "The text said..." It's clearly a grammatical nonsense - the written/typed word cannot say anything! It should be "The letter read..." or "The text read..."

Goodness grief...

I'm afraid I draw the line there, TMR :p I'm not ever going to start worring about the difference between me saying "That's not what you said in the text message" and "Thats not what you wrote in the text message" ;)

LMAO :)

That's fine mate, it's just one of those things that is unique to me ;)

I know a chap at work who hates going into supermarkets and seeing a sign that reads '10 items or less'. He always comments "10 items or less what? It ought to be 10 items or fewer!" ;)

What if it's one of those cards with a little speaker?

The Mad Rapper said:
Well clearly the novelty voice would be 'say/said' and the written message would be 'read'.

Couldn't you work that out yourself or were you just trying to be a smart alec?
Unless the novelty speaker read the same text as printed on the card, and you were speaking in reference to the card in general - then you'd get the luxury of choosing between both "Said" and "Read"! Win!! :p

Sorry, there doesn't appear to be a sarcasm smiley that doesn't cause offence on here. :(

The odd spelling mistake here and there isn't too bad to cope with, but not putting a capital letter at the start of your sentences is just plain lazy. I often misspell several words in a post but because they are not lazy ones, its not a big deal.

People who post just to point out a grammar mistake do need to get a life. Use the RTM button if it bothers you so much.

LOL - I'll concede that you would indeed be right, in the event that highly unlikely scenario were to occur ;)

Depends, why should we be bothered to read a post that was created by someone who couldn't be bothered to check their spelling?

why be so harsh? most people on the forum are fun and friendly and very accepting of others and there spelling mistakes.
