Trouble with first time GPU install - 6850

OK, so I've just done my best to remove all traces of AMD driver software. I'm going to now try to disable the onboard graphics in the bios and see what happens. If the card is working, I should still get some display, and then I need to re-install the AMD drivers?

On my gigabyte board, for onboard VG it basically has:

1)Disable if GPU card installed
2)Always enable
3)Auto

It was on 1 by default and that wasn't working. I put it on Auto, and that didn't work either. No display, fans at max still.

I guess I'll try resetting the CMOS, but I guess that's the last attempt?

I've also reseated the card in the pcie x16 slot and 6pins several times. They're in there.

Sounds like the card needs to go back.

You could always try and select option 1. I think that could be worth a go.

Also if you do have another card that might use a PCI-E slot, put that in there to check that its not the slot. It doesn't have to have a PCI-E 6 pin plug for the power, just so you can see if its the card or not...

Oops, that was a typo. It's on option 1 by default. I've tried both 1 and 3.

And I tried running it in the PCIE x4 slot too, same thing. Unless both slots and the mobo are faulty.

when you plug the hdmi lead into the card do you get any display (post screen/ bios etc) if you dont try using a different cable or dvi (long shot but hay it might work )

Tried that already with DVI-D.

Reset CMOS did not help, same issue. It has to go back.

But seriously guys, thanks for all the help. I learnt a lot at least, so that's at least one good thing to come from this.

Just sent in the RMA request to OcUK.

Anyone know if OcUK send a courier or do I need to sort out postage? Another company I've used for parts sent a courier if the part was faulty.

you post it and if its faulty they refund the postage you paid (as long as its not extortionate)

So don't send it in black cab?

Update: OcUK found that it was faulty and the item is being replaced and sent out right away. Sent it out Thursday at 5:30PM and heard back Saturday. Not bad, hopefully should get it Monday or Tuesday as the item is in stock.

Item 'shipped' today, but they also said the courier doesn't collect on weekends so it'll probably arrive on Tuesday.

No chance of a case photo - it's an utter shambles without cable management in this Antec 300.

Got the card on Monday, and it was shipped on Saturday. Not bad. Card works fine now. I let windows find and install the driver, but I don't know if it's the latest. I'll go to AMD and have a look.

I don't think that really matter

I'll take some shots after I install the cooler. I might photoshop out the cables. Who needs cable management when you have the clone tool?
