Trouble with first time GPU install - 6850

I had a very similar problem when I bought my asus dual fan 4890,
loud fans at start up,beeping and signal sometimes @800x600 and other times none whatsoeve.after exhausting all the options I took it back to my local pc component shop,he gave me a new card, same result..so we tried again with a nvidia card..same result, ended up being my pci express slot was faulty and my board blew in the end (must have loved my 8800gt too much :-)) needless to say I got a new mobo and it all worked first time.

might not be the same with you, just thought i'd share my gpu nightmare

The V1 was not 80+ but the V2 is 80+ certified if I remember....

Edit - here is the corsair link V2 is 80+ certified but I have never really understood the point of worrying about a few quids worth of electric saving when building a high end gaming system....

Corsair cx430 range

It's not so much that. It's that the PSU doesn't create tons of waste heat when loaded up. 80+ is usually a good indicator that it's a nice stable and cool PSU.

So when you first installed the card, did you not have any display coming from any of the GPU's sockets? Were the fans also on max rpm?

fan was maxed but i had a display :/ have you disabled onboard graphics (if you have them) and remove all old drivers (use driver sweeper) and if you are using a vga to dvi adapter make sure you plug it into the right dvi slot

Do I need to remove the onboard intel graphics drivers? I'm using the HDMI slot.

OK, so I've just done my best to remove all traces of AMD driver software. I'm going to now try to disable the onboard graphics in the bios and see what happens. If the card is working, I should still get some display, and then I need to re-install the AMD drivers?

On my gigabyte board, for onboard VG it basically has:

1)Disable if GPU card installed
2)Always enable
3)Auto

It was on 1 by default and that wasn't working. I put it on Auto, and that didn't work either. No display, fans at max still.

I guess I'll try resetting the CMOS, but I guess that's the last attempt?

You could always try and select option 1. I think that could be worth a go.

Also if you do have another card that might use a PCI-E slot, put that in there to check that its not the slot. It doesn't have to have a PCI-E 6 pin plug for the power, just so you can see if its the card or not...

I've also reseated the card in the pcie x16 slot and 6pins several times. They're in there.

Sounds like the card needs to go back. :(

Oops, that was a typo. It's on option 1 by default. I've tried both 1 and 3.

And I tried running it in the PCIE x4 slot too, same thing. Unless both slots and the mobo are faulty.

when you plug the hdmi lead into the card do you get any display (post screen/ bios etc) if you dont try using a different cable or dvi (long shot but hay it might work )
