admittedly I only read two of the books, the one with the witches and the one after but it was written from the female perspective a bit much for me.

page long descriptions of Eric's body etc put me off.

I read 8 books and I'm glad they don't copy just everything in TV series. There always comes something you don't expect to see.

I've only watched the first two episodes. So far nothing has really made me want to watch more. Seems rather slow and, well...not really my thing.

The books are poorly written, the dialogue lacking, less humour, less everything really. Alan Ball has made Charlaine Harris' original work 1000 times better. The books are so bad in comparison, they are targeted at housewives. Avoid them if you love the tv series because they will spoil future plotlines.

There is something about this show that just keeps on giving.

The show doesn't take itself too seriously, which is far too easy with a vampire type show. I usually find myself laughing out loud (sometimes inappropriately) at least once or twice every show.

Same here! I still remember all that laugh with my friends while watching Season 1.
Although I won't watch 3rd season until I have them all on my PC.
I just can't wait for a week to see what happens next. Call me impatient, but I like watching True Blood until my eyes start hurting, go red and I fall asleep with a sunrise Just like a vampire xD

As far as characters are concerned I like Goldric's and Bill's personalities the most. And something about Amy as well... Sookie - is Sookie ...ah... hard decision
