Hi,

I currently have this PSU in my old computer system:

http://www.trust.com/products/product.aspx?artnr=14888

I am looking at upgrading it to:

AMD Dual Core Phenom II X2 555

Corsair XMS3 TwinX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Dual Channel Kit

ATI Radeon 5770 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express - Retail

Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3

My question is will the Trust PSU above be capable of running those parts?

I couldn't find any info on the amperage specs of the unit but I would expect them to be biased towards 5v and not 12v.

Post back with the 12v rail amps and perhaps a proper judgement could be made, although at the moment I would say it's time to replace the psu. I had a dual 8cm fan PSU once and it was awful.

Due to you wanting the ATI 5770 video card I doubt that a 450W PSU would suffice in all honesty and for the sake of an extra tenner (£10) you can get this;
Code:

I do not know for sure what the ATI card will need in power but by spending that extra £10 you have room to add other HDD's etc.

A decent 400W to 550W PSU (with the watts being biased towards the 12v rail) would be ample for this set-up. Listen to Stulid - the BeQuite 530W PSU is an absolute bargain and would serve you well.

Just looked up the Trust 570W (found a German review)

Here are the specs: 2 x +12V rails with 16 A +3,3V --> 32A, +5V --> 30A und -12V --> 1A.

In short, don't trust that Trust PSU with your PC!

Hi

Thanks for your reply.

I have decided to go with the Corsair PSU for the time being as that should do the job okay. If I upgrade in the future I will get a higher wattage PSU.

For the sake of a single pounds you'd be crazy going for the inferior Corsair. The Corsair PSU isn't even 80Plus certified whereas the Bequiet is and over it's lifespan will save you considerably more than a quid in electricity bills.

More Watts =/= better PSU. The CX430 is better than the BeQuiet, but they are both unimpressive due to the anemic +12v capacity on both of them.

A modern 530w PSU shouldn't have 420w on its +12v. And a modern 430w shouldn't have 336w on its +12v.

errr, what?

The bequiet is a better psu, the cx builder series from corsair is not as good as the previous corsair psu's. Even at teh same wattage itd be a better psu. Why do you think most of the wattage should not be on the +12v?
