Truth?

Surprised this company is still in business...

I was, but they sell pre-owned games (console) and gaming 'merch'. Its like a one stop shop for parents and grandparents who haven't realised everywhere else is cheaper yet.

I popped into my local one 2 months ago to browse the PC section. They had 4 CD-keys for steam priced at £20 more than steam itself, there was nothing else.

Twas Game.

Game once sold me a broken ps3 ( i wanted a cheap second hand job just for the last of us as it was the only game i wanted to play so didn't want to pay £100 + at the time just to play a game )

Needless to say the first one didn't work it would run the game at like 5fps max. I suspected it was a read issue on the hdd but none the less i took it back.

I took the new game with it as well and told them i wanted them to test the next one with the game to make sure it works fine. They claimed they did and gave me another ps3 that was " working " with the game however it was the exact same issue. At this point i was peeved enough to phone up there regional support team who agreed it was shoddy. I explained i am comfortable with technology and asked whilst recording if i would be okay to removed the hdd and install a ssd to test my theory that it was the drive dying. They agreed and promised to honor warranty so i installed a ssd i had lay around at the time and the game worked with absolutely no issues what so ever. Needless to say once i had finished the game i took it back and asked for a refund because they essentially sold me another broken console they wasn't going to until i told them about the phone call and offered to prove that they had sold me two broken consoles and lied about them working. Will never use them again. Not because they sold me a bad console. I can understand second hand products may have issues. But the reason i wont buy from them again is because they had promised me they had tested it and that it was working fine with the last of us. Simple lies.

I would recommend phoning their big customer support team not the local shop.

I did email 'customer services' and their advise was speak to the manager at the shop you bought the game (they did provide me with the shoos direct dial number - whoopee!)-I responded that as it was the manager who had authorised the refund it did seem a little pointless in ringing him.
Will not be bothering taking this any further but I do not see me buying (or recommending them )there in the future.

they let you strip out the hdd to replace with an ssd to test your theory?? honest to goodness are you telling the truth, cause I really find that hard to believe

probably, when I sent a laptop off to be fixed, they deemed it too far gone so sent me a "like for like" laptop (on paper.... Numbers were similar but in performance it was ****). When it arrived windows said it only had 2gb of ram and I not 4gb. So I phoned them up to discuss and they suggested to open it while on the phone to check the ram and it only had one 2gb stick. Had to send the whole thing back rather than sending me a stick..... And then they broken the screen returning it to me :p oh well.... Third was through some laptop warranty company as Evesham computers had gone through

but that's a different scenario - they only suggested you open it up and have a look - they didn't authorise you to strip out and replace parts! I'd be really surprised at any company (mickey mouse or not) giving the customer the ok to replace parts, especially to prove their hunch!

True, but it is just the hdd..... That's two screws and pull a tab. Hardly stripping it out :p

I'm not saying you're a liar but this did not happen

for those in the know yes it's a simple job - but there's no way a company would presume over the phone that the customer has the relevant know how and would let them just carry on
