Trying to install Ubuntu

8.04 is not a good idea right now, its still too shonky and updates are still breaking stuff (occasional screams of agony have been heard from folks at work that are using the beta.)
*pats his debian workstation*
Stable as they come, works without hassles, and so far no update has broken it.

This is true I have to admit.

My test machine did 164 updates to 8:04 early this morning ( I work nights, Switched the machine on when I got in)

Add this boot options, think you have to press F6 then add this text to the end.

nosplash vga=791

It will then boot up.

Once ubuntu is installed, you will have to enter these parameters again to access ** ubuntu install.

Once loaded to the desktop open a terminal and type this.

sudo -i

Then:

gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst

Move to the ubuntu section and add these at the end

nosplash vga=791

Save it and then close

Your ubuntu should now work.

If these instructions aint clear ill try to beef them up tonight when im home and maybe do screenshots if needed.

Peace

yeh as others have said 8.04 works flawlessly with an 8800GT, probably easier to download that. It is a beta tho, but I cant see anything wrong weith it
