Trying to put my laptop on the net!

well i thought it was going to be straight forward, i want to put my laptop on the net, my main pc is on a netgear router, and is hooked up on my main pc wired, my laptop has a wireless card, and also i have usb wirless connecter thingy :rolleyes:

so my main computer this one, is hooked up wired, i go on my laptop, search for networks via connect to a network, and all i get it someone elses wireless, not mine, how come it isnt finding my netgear router, or even it isnt finding my usb network one when i plug that into my main computer :confused:

Have you changed the settings on the usb adapter to your network settings?

Is your router wireless

i fail, got it working now

had to log into my netgear setting online and change loads of stuff in there

Log into your router and check that wireless is actually enabled.
If memory serves me correctly netgear kit generally has an indicator on the front of the unit to indicate that wireless is switched on.
Further to this, check it is actually broadcasting your SSID.
Without this you would need to configure your wireless connection manually.

Make sure you enable wireless security - at least WPA if not WPA2 if your kit supports it.
