Hi,

I've got a problem with something I'm trying to make. I've got some material and a small LED and i'm trying to find a good solution to having the LED attached to the material with a tube. Kind of like a piece of biro pen tubing but with a gripping bit to clip it on to the material.

Does anyone know if something like this exists??

I've tried looking for model shops around me but they're all miles away so thought ordering online from one of the big components places would be good but since they have millions of different things all called weird names I was hoping someone might just say, "You need a widgyclipo 187 rah".

Thanks. ;)

You could try getting an 'LED Holder' (one of the screw types), a piece of tubing of correct diameter for the holder, screw the holder in one end and just attach to the material with a screw in the other end. You might have to 'tap' the tubing though if it's not possible to just screw straight into it.

As far as I'm aware there isn't a ready made solution to your problem.

No idea what you are attempting to do, material? power source?

There are detachable LED lights that go on the ends of fishing rods for night fishing, one part of it is attached to the rod and then the LED light with self contained battery is attached when needed if it's something like that you're after?

thanks for the replies, the power source is by battery and the wires go through the tube to the led, the material is just cotton. I need the led to protrude about an inch away from the material somehow, just some kind of hollow tubing that the led will slot in to and allow the wires to get in to power it.

Imagine a curtain with leds sticking out an inch, the wires reach the led from the back of the curtain, going in to the tube to the LED. So it all looks neat.

Mint_Sauce did you draw that diagram yourself? I think Freud might have something to say about that...

Not sure where you'd get them but why not get a small length of plastic tubing and a rubber bung with a hole through it. Simply grip the material when the bung is inserted..If you see what I mean.

Or adapt something like this, it could esily do the job with a little bit of faffing:

Depends on the size you want really.

Assuming you need the LED to stand off from whatever the red 'material' bit of your drawing is, either use a panel mounted light pipe (effectively, the LED mounts at the back and and the light is transfered to the front), an LED clip (not really what you are asking for but could be adapted a bit to work) or a panel mount spacer.
First and last could be ideal, but without knowing the application I couldnt say for sure.

Depending on how 'stiff' (ooeerrr) the tube needs to be there's always heat shrink tubing? You could stiffen it with a split of some kind as well. Or try an Aquatics shop and have a look at the pipeing they sell for air pumps.
