TSO Down?

I guessed that :p

Just wanted to know exactly what he meant. I.E what does Bluesquare lack that more modern data centers have?
Nothing, BSQ is only 4 years old and is light years ahead of other DCs in terms of facilities and service. It's a full Tier III datacentre, above what many hosts use including some rather pricey hosts.

Obviously something serious went wrong today however which will require a full review to decide what to do going forward. Power outages shouldn't happen.

Thanks Beansprout.

Do you know when we will be back on mains?

They're checking the UPSs to do the switch back, but given what the UPSs have done today I'm comfortable with taking a large can of diesel to the DC every morning....

(Note, that of course is a joke!)

I wonder if they will replace them or just re use them.

Ok, aren't getting any answer from tsohost re the below - assume they're busy today :) Does anyone experience any of the below, or is it just me?

  • Connecting remotely to MySQL databases
  • Sending email from webpages E.g. email from contact forms using PHP’s mail() never seem to get delivered
  • Adding new websites to the clustered hosting account – I get redirected to a blank page

A&A (AAISP) had issues today too with the stuff they have at bluesqare

Seems like a nightmare all round!

I was under the impression that colo customers would have their own rack based UPSs in addition to the data centres, is this common practice?

Remote MySQL is backup now - must have come up recently as it wasn't working at 5pm today. Have also just had tons of test emails through from contact forms that I sent earlier in the day - noit sure what happened there

Even if it is, UPSs only give you time to shutdown cleanly - stuff still has to be powered back up.

I believe Tso do have a UPS on their cluster system to protect critical components :)

Based on the number of hosting companies in BS2/3, there were probably 250,000 websites+ down today.
