Anyone else had to deal with a TT99?

I was paying £490 for an EP3 Civic with 9 points on my licence. I never knew how bad an extra 3 points would be with insurance. Looking at £1200 now.

90% of insurers don't even quote you with this code.

I know it's my fault but it's easier than ever to get 12 points with the amount of mobile camera vans about. I was trying to get a driving job at some point but I'm probably out for 4 years now. The 6 month ban and £250 fine is only part of the punishment.

i have 3 points on my licence from 2 years ago and that's bad enough so I dread to think what a tt99 would do to my premiums!

Serves you right. I'm no saint when driving and have managed to rack up a whole three points in 13 years.

Zero sympathy here. Get safe or get off. Not hard.

But is that purely down to luck. I know that I could have easily got more than the 3 points that I've got in the 8.5 years driving.

Although to be fair I would probably be driving like a nanny if I ever got to 9 points!

I'm sorry but it's not luck at all. I personally don't know anyone who has managed to rack up 12 points so there must be millions of very lucky people out there by your logic!

Remember this is 12 points all within 3 years, that's damn impressive if nothing else. Usually if you get to 6 point you'd kind of get a hint, even if it was for the remaining 2years or so of the 3. Then once some have dropped off go nuts again if you wish.

Then don't speed (I assume your 12 points all came from speeding?). I've been driving 15-20k a year for the past 3 years and still have a clean license, some of that is down to luck, some is down to obeying the rules of the road (no matter how stupid you think that 40 limit is)

It certainly puts you off having a quickish car nowadays.

All these hot hatches that get sold I very much doubt only accelerate on slip roads up to 70mph and are only tested on a track.

20 years ago I would probably only have 3.

Some rather odd attitudes in this thread - i'm sure the OP knows who is to blame.

As for the premium, I suspect it's that move towards a ban that is impacting you. I couldn't personally stomach paying £1k+ for insurance now, the best option might be to play around with some alternative cars and move the ep3 on.

This might mean moving to something like a focus/mondeo for a couple of years, or if you don't need the seats/space you might find an mx5/ mr2 reasonable to insure

I don't understand how people find it so difficult to drive at/under the speed limits especially when you KNOW that 1 more ticket and it'll be your licence gone?!

Sure there may be cameras everywhere these days but they only do you if you're breaking the speed limit..

Best thing to do is take it to the track, i drive a lot slower on the roads since i started doing track days years ago. So much so i never go out for a hoon on the roads now as i just don't find it any fun at all compared.

My Dad managed to get to 22 points before someone at the DVLA noticed and took his licence off him. Saw the paper counterpart as well so I know it wasn't just bravado on his part.

He was (and still is) a nutcase behind the wheel though. I wouldn't get into a car driven by him.

This. I really need a track car again, but that'll have to wait until after a house :(

I'm now more bothered about MPG than MPH on the road.

In 30 years of driving, I have only ever had 3 points. Of course when I started there were no such thing as speed cameras, but and it's very very easy to get caught out these days. But 9-12 points? No. That shows a lack of sense I'm sorry to say.

Lol, sucks to be you. Perhaps forget the driving jobs and look for a job you can do without getting repeated fines

It's only down to luck if you drive in a particular manner.

I love the "It's easier than ever to rack up points" and "it's down to luck" comments.

I think you 2 need to get your cars looked at if they're accelerating over the speed limit by themselves, because unless that's the case, it's nothing to do with luck, and all to do with intentionally exceeding the speed limit.

There is an element of luck when it comes to getting caught - I've always considered myself a very steady driver and I was once sat on 9 points about 10 years ago whereas a mate of mine drives like a lunatic 24/7 in his car and he's never been caught!

All of my convictions were where I was marginally over the limit and it was more through lack of attention that me driving fast "on purpose" (speed limit changes, temporary reduced speed limits, average speed checks etc)

Having said that it does sound about right insurance-wise I'm afraid!

I got banned for a month in 2008 for speeding on the M1. Lesson learnt and had a clean license since that came off.
My lil bro wasn't so lucky. Got 6 points for causing an accident, 3 points gatso flash and 3 points bald tyre. Like many here, have zero sympathy but since his tt99 he has become a much safer driver!

Not really, maybe he's just smarter with where he speeds, I know I am.

Don't speed in a place that you've not been before and don't know the popular locations for mobile traps. Rush hour is fair game round here, they never have mobile traps up then. However if I go in to the office later (10am onwards, I know there's a high chance of a van. Motorway is fair game round here up to 85mph it seems (obviously not through average speed sections, that would be dumb). And generally just be aware and concentrate (you should be anyway).

See I have sympathy for people who get banned on the motorway for doing 100mph etc. Obviously not 140mph etc...
