Anyone else riding the Piccadilly line in West London notice these? Seems to be mostly women of Eastern European appearance speaking accented\broken English begging for money to feed their baby. What baffles me is how they got on without paying for a ticket ...unless they can afford it and are pretending to be poor... In one case I came across the exact same women twice in a day. Do you give them anything? I don't personally but I saw maybe 1 out of 15 passengers give them the odd bit of change.

They are really annoying scum, one of the many things that has made living in London unpleasant.

In NYC once i saw a begger who looked exactly like Jeremy Clarkson, was quite old and he was wearing an old suit and was really making the effort even playing his banged up guitar.

I give him 20 bucks and took the time to have a chat with him. Unlike most of the hobos he was actually genuine and trying to earn a living rather then just begging.

Not all homeless people are the same. Having said that from what ive seen in london they all are the same :o

Basically when I was a kid I never remember beggars coming up to me, no bothering me, asking for stuff. There were tramps and there were druggies but they knew their place sitting in doorways holding their hands out.

Like I said it's one of the many things that has made living in London unpleasant. You may like beggars, I do not.

But how hard is it, just to simply ignore them?

Have you seen that eastern European guy that plays the ocordian?
He was actually pretty good. Cheered up my journey a bit. I still didn't give the little kid that collects the money for him any cash though :p

Beggars I can handle. Buskers annoy me (the ones that tube hop, not the 'licensed' ones).

You ignore them/refuse to give them money and they make some wise crack to embarrass you. No the reason why I'm not giving you money is not because I have a stick up my rear, but because you just violently raped a good song with your guitar and knowledge of about two chords.

I can remember being out in Leeds, probably around 10 years ago now. A young girl, probably around 18-19 years of age was begging in a doorway. As we had been on the sauce, and were feeling charitable, we stopped and gave her some money.

Later on we saw her getting into a Taxi with a pizza
