Tuesday Evening Beer Thread

I drink the local stuff by Harveys in lewes, helps that I can wander round to the brewery and pick it up :)

Beer number two - Brakspear Triple

Label said:
"Thanks to the two fermentations int he Brakspear 'double drop' system and another in bottle, this highly aromatic and satisfying strong beer delivers it's rich flavour with subtlety and balance"

Brewed with Marls Otter, Crystal and Black malts, Northdown hops are used in the copper with Cascade added at the end of the boil. Brakspear's classic fermentation starts in the top vessel, dropping to a lower one to complete its primary phase. Here it stays to complete its secondary fermentation, during which more Cascade hops are added. Finally it is bottled with its yeast and the third fermentation starts. The flavour of this beer will go on to develop further complexity as it matures in bottle.

Where did you purchase the beers from then penski? I've tried just about all of the beers in morrisons and need to find another store that does a good wide range of beers. Actually wouldn't have minded a few beers tonight, but im quite enjoying my morgans rum :p

I'm making my way through the remnants of a big bottle of Cornish Scrumpy as I type. 7.5% and full of bits of dead wasp, but hey-beats Magners/Strongbow/any mass produced commercial wee-water. Yum!

<Goolden>A few shades deeper than the Summer Lightning, with a light, caramel-hued head contrasting with SL's creamy white topping. Initially, the nose is filled with a sweet infusion not unlike a mixture of Drumstick Lollypops and with a strong lingering smell of aftershave.

First tastes reveal a round, almost medicinal flavour. The aroma filling your nasal cavity with tinges of Hai Karate before leaving a lingering taste and aroma of rubbing alcohol.</Goolden>

4/10 - pleasant, generic beer spoiled by smelling of seventies aftershave.

Possibly a bad bottle?

21:54 - beer abandoned.

Due to an overwhelming feeling that I was sipping Meths, bottle number two (Brakspear triple) has been abandoned.

I had the exact same experience with a botlle of Artois Bock. Vile stuff.

Im currently drinking my 4th bottle of brahma of the evening. Whilst not beer I am enjoying it immensely.

Goes down nicely. :)

Third beer - Marston's SPL

Label said:
Brewed using a cool, slow fermentation process together with the finest quality Maris Otter barley and Fuggles & Golding hops, this deceptively strong, smooth and quaffable ale was voted World Champion at the 1996 Brewing Industry awards

<Goolden>An initial 'classic' aroma - a good, solid, manly beer. The kind of beer that works down a mine and has a pint of itself before going home to the mrs and three kids.

Relatively flat and a rich auburn colour it tastes like beer should. Like the kind of beer you pretended to like when your dad took you for your first 'legal pint'.</Goolden>

6/10

PS: Brakspear has been demoted to 2/10 pending investigation of further bottles.

Feeling the effects of alcohol - I am a complete lightweight at the best of times. I feel slightly lightheaded and fuzzy.

But, hunger prevails - I just put a garlic bread thingy in the oven. :D

Oooh, I hope that the garlic does not taint the quality or taste of the beer! Please let us know :D!
