Is tuna good for you? I know its got a high protein amount and low fat but ive heard that it also has a high level of mecury in it and should only be eaten once a week

I often eat a tin a day and sometimes 2 tins a day. My old housemate would go through 2 tins a day on a regular basis and he didnt look unhealthy

Nothing wrong with tuna. Some tuna has high mercury content which could be harmful in the long term, I guess.. but unless you're eating nothing but tuna, I think you'll be fine.

You must've had your head buried in the sand then.

Obviously I have been blinded by propaganda, but as I don't eat more then 4 medium sized cans of the stuff a week I should be alrite. :)

i have gone off the tinned stuff to be honest, we have fresh tuna a couple of times a week. My little 3 year old loves it!

Unless you go mental and eat stupid amounts of it you'll be fine.

Same with anything, eat nothing but cabbage for a whole week and you'll have stomach issues. ;)

Yes it is good for you but you might wanna mix it with other things. The mecury concentration will be in minute quantities. If you dont consume a ton in a month you should be ok. Also check for where the tuna was caught from.

Mercury poisoing is very slow and might take years to see the effect. Iirc.

I eat 5-6 cans a week at the moment... will eat less when my protein shakes arrive though. It's nice stuff, especially when mixed with a can of baked beans. :D

If you find yourself growing a few inches in the hot weather, then stop eating it until you flush the mercury out of your system :)

I doubt mercury can be flushed out of the system iirc. It tends to accumulates over years and once it passes a threshold, it will lead into problems.
