Worth changing the stock fan to something different? Installed it yesterday and im getting load temps of almost 80c (quad at 3.2ghz) with the fan set to around medium speed.

If you are using Core Temp I would suggest reseating your heatsink, reapplying thermal paste. That is quite high for the overclock. What case do you have, how many case fans, what happens at full speed on the Tuniq. My quad is clocked to 3.4Ghz, with the Tuniq on 50% speed I get an average Core temp of 58c under load in a warm room. I have a Lian Li V1000 Plus case. Do you have any other temps available, like PWM and motherboard?

Case is the p182 so three case fans. Think i will reseat it later as first time around it was sliding around a bit. Will check back in later :)

I went finger tight with the screws and made sure they all protruded the same length out of the back plate. I had to use a little bit of force to get the heatsink to move and spread the AS5 , so it was pretty secure. Did you fit it outside of the case?

Was fitted outside the case, think im gonna try remounting it with the new as application method for quads.

At present with the fan at full speed 2 cores are at 69c and the others 73c.

The stock fan is powerful but loud at full speed, and positioning the speed dial provided in the form of a PCI slot cover can be a pain. I'd suggest replacing the stock fan with something like a Scythe S-Flex 1200 or 1600. You can still use the stock Tuniq fan elsewhere.

I get load temps of around 50-53c with the stock Tuniq fan at slowest setting, room temp is around 26c. Mine's screwed in pretty tight though, solid and unmovable. I cut a few strips of sticky pad stuff from a DIY shop to stick on top of the original sticky stuff on the blanking plate to give it a bit of extra clearance from the back of the motherboard to prevent it touching any metal bits on the motherboard.

Well redone everything, getting load temps of around 70c for 2 cores 73c for the other two. Can't say im too impressed, the cpu ihs isn't perfectly flat but its very slight to how much its off. Really can't be arsed to lap it either. Suppose i'll just make do with things how they are.

Gerad I think Boney did not read carefully and think you already have a Tuniq tower as he asks what speed u have the fan on it.lol.

You should get a tuniq mate, will reduce temps loads!

Something definitely isn't right there, don't know what it could be if you've followed the guides correctly. :(

Could be to do with my pos asus p5k, the voltage at the minute is up at 1.51 or so for the quad becuase of the massive v-droop on this board.

Air cooling though...i dunno it just never seems to work for me, i always read about people getting these great temps, i get the exact same setup and my temps always seem to be much higher. Dunno what the reason is, im not overdoing thermal paste or anything.

What's your vcore in bios?

My temps aren't the best but it never goes above 70 when priming and I've reseated twice.

If you are using Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste, this is the guide for applying it to a Quad:

2 peeps on XS (1 a Mod and clued up peep) had same issues after a refit of their Tuniq's.

They both tried to apply the TIM as above (they normally spread it) and got 80-90C temps on load.

Both finally refitted again doing their normal spread method and are back to normal temps.

I personally did that line up centre this time around and I know the temp is higher than previously, I will never not Spread it again.

No probs here with me temps helmut and that method of application. Did they do the little clockwise/ anti-clockwise wiggle of the Tuniq to spread it around on the heat spreader?
